In reply to: Channel 7 poll... 68% McCain 32% Obama 's message, "Re: NOBAMA!!!" on 21:04:06 09/27/08 Sat

That's the address for the Channel 7 site from Boston. Here is what they said...

WASHINGTON -- A pair of one-night polls gave Barack Obama a clear edge over John McCain in their first presidential debate.

Fifty-one percent said Obama, the Democrat, did a better job in Friday night's faceoff while 38 percent preferred the Republican McCain, according to a CNN-Opinion Research Corp. survey of adults.

Obama was widely considered more intelligent, likable and in touch with peoples' problems, and by modest margins was seen as the stronger leader and more sincere. Most said it was McCain who spent more time attacking his opponent.

The Hiller Instinct reports
With the topic of tonight's debate--foreign policy--neatly tied to the national economy--John McCain's greatest strength--international relations--was diminished.

Advantage: Obama.

Even with the bail-out included--where both candidates were weak--much of the debate was filled with phrases and positions from their stump speeches. But, tonight, Obama's answers sounded sharper, more sweeping, and better thought out.

Advantage: Obama

Obama was also the aggressor in the debate, and McCain often looked down or away when he was under attack--which made him appear uncomfortable. McCain also seemed less energetic.

Advantage: Obama.

All that makes Obama the winner tonight. He was more confident and in command than he's been in the past. In a word, he was more presidential.

While there are still two more debates to go, history says the first is the most influential.

My guess is that--as always--both candidates will claim victory, and both will have some evidence to offer...but I think Obama will have much more.

I'm Andy Hiller and that's my instinct.
