I don’t like paying income tax. I realize that the majority of the taxes pay for road repairs, police officers, firefighters, and correction officers and other very important things. Hospitals rely on state funding for various things that affect patient care. However, I would also like an extra $3000.00 - $4000.00 a year in my pocket (an estimate as to what the average person would see if the income tax was done away with).

It is my understanding that if Massachusetts were to do away with the present income tax law the state would loose between 11-12 billion dollars a year, or 40% of all state revenues.

Every city and town in Massachusetts relies on the state for a good percentage of their revenue to pay for the items listed above. Should the income tax be done away with, wouldn’t the towns have to raise property tax along with other taxes? And even if they did, would it generate sufficient revenue to make up for what they would lose from the state? If not, then what are the alternatives? The only thing I can see is layoffs and business closings.

With that said, I am not confident that the extra $3000.00 - $4000.00 a year in my pocket would be worth it.
