Yesterday's Wall Street Journal's front page has this article: "Treasury Maps New Era of Regulation."

"Treasury Secretary Geithner called on lawmakers Thursday to enact the most comprehensive change to financial-market regulation since the New Deal, prompting hedge funds and others in the cross hairs to start hunting for ways to preserve as much of their autonomy as possible. But in a sign of how the financial crisis has scrambled the political calculus, most hedge fund managers, investors, lawyers and lobbyists said the industry is bracing to accept new constraints. Rather than fight the proposal outright, they will aim to limit provisions they consider too restrictive, such as making their trading records public. Mr. Geithner outlined changes in 4 area: limiting risks that could threaten the broader economy, enhancing protections for investors and consumers, closing gaps in regulatory oversight, and coordinating any actions globally."
