Subject: Regarding my friend....still up in the air
In reply to: BelleEpoque 's message, "Kathy, how are things?" on 19:52:34 08/26/10 Thu

Apparently she sent texts to one of her daughters and her husband that made them question what was going on. She wasn't at home when they went there. They did a lot of searching and finally found her at a park. She had taken some pills. Things got heated. She collapsed. They took her to the hospital and then transferred her to another to deal with her psychological issues. The hospital said the pills she took..."weren't that bad".

The whole thing makes me sad and angry and frustrated. It is like she is playing a game...a sick game. At least this time her 15 year old didn't walk in and find her covered with blood. I talked with her a bit after the last one and she just wanted to play the blame game. She won't get the help she needs because she knows more than any of the psychiatrists (in her opinion). The 15 year old is sick of the situation. My heart breaks for her. I don't know what to do.

The text she sent me thanked me for being a mother to her daughter and asked that I consider continuing to do that. My emotions are all over the place. I think I have forgotten how to be her friend. I feel like right now I just have to be there for the kids and let someone with more knowledge try to deal with her.

for her family, and she hasn't a clue how much damage she is creating for them. No one expects you to take on a situation where there is suicidal ideation...or acting out. It's beyond torture for her kid, and isn't school just starting? I hope she can be committed for the good of her family, asap. The sooner they are all off that roller-coaster the better. I'm so sorry she is in that state, and my hat's off to you for trying to make her daughter feel as 'normal' as possible.

I think you are very wise to want to be there for the kids and let the Dr's deal with the mom because you certainly can't, nor should you be expected to.

Your situation is really unique but I have had some experiences with people who are suicidal. Please keep in mind that depression is an illness, and your friend's kids (regardless of the parent's illness) has to in some ways deal with a parent with a terminal illness.

I will pray for you ... for personal strength.
