I was up at Edgelaw on Tuesday from dawn till dusk........and what a day ! It pissed down the whole time till about 4 pm and thats about whern the runs dryed up.

I took two reasonable sized jacks on lures that I usually keep for Lomond and bigger waters but I thought that at this time of year when the pike (male and female) are just lying low trying too put on pounds for as little effort seeing as its running up to spawning time that they needed a decent target and what they thought would've been a decent meal.......they went 7 and 9 respectivley.

Then I had a quiet spell and put out two deadbait rods baited with smelt and herring. After an hour.....still nowt so I reeled in and sprayed the baits half with Wychwoods red deadbait dye so they were like a two toned bait. I recast and after a 10 minute wait the right hand rod roared off (Smelt)and after a 10 or so minute tussle a spawn laden 14 pounder was gently unhooked in the water and sent on her way. The 14lb is a conservative guess but I didn,t want to put her through the stress of a sacking and weighing!

It just goes to show though.......a slight change in approach makes all the differance, plus as we all know red is a 'predator provoker'so I reccomend you all go out and buy some 'Wychwood aerosol bait dye'........NOW!! LOL...!!

By the way......for club members I was fishing the newish platform swim which is the first one you come to if you approach from the dam end.....tight traces guys!!
