I just found out about this guy. He's got a huge back catalog that can be found at www.damagedgoods.co.uk
Billy Childish plays garage rock but not like the Strokes or any of those bands.
I couldn't find a better picture online but this is what the cover looks like.

According to the website it's sold out. But I got a copy at this specialty store out here last week. I really want to hear more of his stuff.

Floyd Lays Plans for Piper

To mark the 40th anniversary of the original release of Pink Floyd's first album �The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn', a special edition is planned for release via EMI Records on Tues 28th August in North America, and Monday September 3rd in Europe.

The packaging, designed by Storm Thorgerson, resembles a cloth-covered book, and holds 3 CD discs, along with a 12-page reproduction Syd Barrett notebook.

Discs 1 and 2 will contain the full �Piper' album, represented in both stereo and mono versions. Both have been newly remastered by James Guthrie.

Disc 3 includes bonus tracks, including the following: all the Pink Floyd singles from 1967, (�Arnold Layne', �See Emily Play', and �Apples And Oranges'), plus the B sides �Candy And A Current Bun' and �Paintbox'. Other tracks are a version of �Interstellar Overdrive' - Take 2 of the original recording sessions, previously only available on an EP in France - and the 1967 stereo version of �Apples And Oranges'.

Other activities surrounding the 40th anniversary celebrations will be announced in due course.

The new RHCP VPRO documentary was aired on Dutch TV the other night. Full of old and recent footage, some of it unseen before, it offers a great insight into the history of the band.
A lot of the narration is in Dutch but the interviews etc are in English of course.

This is the tenth solo recording of John Frusciante, written and recorded during 2005-2007. John has made the statement that 17 songs were considered for this album, and at least 14 will be included. This record will be more extensively produced as with his earlier record, Shadows Collide With People. Josh Klinghoffer will play drums throughout.

This record will seemingly be the fitting sequel to Curtains, released by Frusciante in early 2005, the final of his 6 albums in 6 months series. This album supposedly will be acoustic-based, while implementing a classical feel to the songs. This implies that either John or Josh will be playing piano more heavily on this collection.

Frusciante's tenth solo disc is highly anticipated due to the lack of releases since his high creative output in 2004.

Lyrics from this album were inscribed on the Curtains vinyl. They are "this whole circle stands stamp where you stand," and "a million ways things could be."

Joy Division Members: 'Movie Biopic Isn't True'

The remaining members of Joy Division have given their verdict on the biopic film, and although they think it�s great, they claim it�s only loosely based on the truth.

The Anton Corbijn directed �Control� was premiered at the Cannes Film Festival last month, and speaking to xfm Peter Hook and Stephen Morris have both given the film the thumbs up.

Morris started: "It's good, very good. It�s a bit hard to watch when you're involved in it as much as Peter as I have been though, but Anton's done a really good job, it�s not as funny as 24 hour party people though!

"None of its true really. It�s sort of true but you have to take liberties when you're making a film because the truth is too boring."

Bassist Peter Hook then took over, saying: "I really enjoyed it, but it was as I said like having your heart stamped on. The weirdest thing was at the end, when it really hurt and everybody started clapping. It would've been nice to have a dignified silence.

"You're sat there thinking �Fuck me I lived that!' It was like being dissected.�

The Verve, original line-up Richard Ashcroft, Nick McCabe, Simon Jones and Pete Salisbury were back recording together in a London studio last week.

After a summer break, they will return to the studio to complete their next album.

The Verve will also return to the live arena in November, playing the following 6 shows in the UK:

        I'm dubious about the reformation honeybun as in an interview a few years ago Nick McCabe said that the last time he saw him he had Ashcroft pinned to a wall by the throat and that he (Ashcroft) was crying like a baby. To me, McCabe is a musical genius on a par with Hendrix while Ashcroft is a good singer but can't see beyond his next white Porsche 911. Therein lies the difference to me. Good singer though. Surviving Beatles, widows come together

LAS VEGAS, Nevada (CNN) -- Former Beatles Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr clowned around and marveled at their band's amazing impact in an interview Tuesday on CNN's "Larry King Live."

"We were just kids from Liverpool," McCartney said. "And, yes, it is quite amazing, because as time goes on, it kind of becomes more and more of a phenomenon."

McCartney said the early Beatles knew they were a good band and were pretty sure of themselves, but Starr said, "We thought we'd be really big in Liverpool." (Watch former Beatles discuss their band's legacy )

"I think the most exciting thing is that, you know, we expect people our age to know the music. But actually, a lot of kids know the music," Starr said. "And if anything is left, we have left really good music, and that's the important part, not the moptops or whatever."

The pair appeared relaxed in sneakers and almost matching black suits and joked frequently -- often at each other's expense.

"They were nothing," Starr said of his former bandmates. "And then I joined and then they got this record deal and look what happened."

"No, we were good," McCartney retorted. "You wanted to join us. You begged to join us."

"I didn't beg," Starr said.

'Their presence is very powerful'
McCartney and Starr were in Las Vegas with Yoko Ono Lennon and Olivia Harrison, the widows of John Lennon and George Harrison, to celebrate the anniversary of Cirque du Soleil's "Love," which uses the band's music.

Harrison said her husband was friends with Cirque du Soleil founder Guy Laliberte and came up with the idea before he died of cancer in 2001.

"George was around just long enough to transmit that to all of us," Harrison said. (Watch Beatles widows describe dealing with their loss )

Ono said she wasn't sure at first what her husband would have thought about the project. John Lennon was shot near the couple's New York apartment in 1980.

"Now I really know that John would be very happy with this," she said.

Neither woman has remarried and they both said it was still sometimes difficult to deal with their losses.

"We feel so strongly about our husbands that sometimes it's hard for us, isn't it?" Ono said.

"It's hard, you know," Harrison said. "I mean their presence is very powerful and very strong. But the incredible thing about them is that they -- everything they left the world and left us is uplifting and joyful."

Old songs, new sounds
The Beatles' music received a bit of a facelift for the show and has been remixed in 5.1 surround sound. (An album, "Love," came out last year.)

"Paul and I went to listen to the music in 5.1 and we go 'Whoa, listen to that,' " Starr said. "You know you can hear everything now. Things that we buried a lot. It's all very clear, so it's really great to hear it."

"Most historic stuff goes down with age, you know?" McCartney added. "Winston Churchill's old papers go brown and crinkly, while our music gets brighter and shinier."

"Next year, it will be 10.1," Starr joked.

McCartney's latest solo album, "Memory's Almost Full," is No. 3 on the album charts and Starr is scheduled to release a greatest hits album in August.

The late George Harrison will join his former bandmate John Lennon on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame.

The ex-Beatle was among the list of inductees announced for 2008's ceremony. Other figures from the world of music include Ricky Martin, Christina Aguilera, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

The pavement stars have been a feature of Hollywood Boulevard since 1960 and are awarded to entertainers in film, television, theater, and music.

According to Hollywood's honorary mayor, Johnny Grant, 2008's artists were chosen "for a combination of professional achievement and community involvement."

He added: "I am happy to announce an array of celebrities who have earned this recognition for a combination of professional achievement and community involvement."

NEW YORK (AP) -- Half brothers Julian and Sean Lennon have begun speaking to each other again.

Their reconciliation follows Julian's eight-year feud with Sean and Sean's mother, Yoko Ono, the widow of the men's father, Beatle John Lennon, the New York Post reported in Sunday's editions.

The rift stemmed from comments Julian made about Yoko Ono, he told the Post. Julian's mother is John's first wife, Cynthia.

"I thought it time to make big changes in my own life," Julian, 44, told the Post in what the paper said was his first interview since 1999. "Part of that has been to get Sean back into my life, because I love him so much."

After contacting Sean's tour manager this year, Julian surprised his half brother backstage after a show in Prague. "We just hugged and held each other," Julian recalled.

Julian joined Sean, 31, on the tour bus, sleeping on the floor and traveling through Croatia and Slovenia, he said.

The Mars Volta have announced that they are in the studio recording their fourth full-length album, The Bedlam In Goliath, with engineer Robert Carranza (Los Lobos, Jack Johnson). The Mars Volta's very own Omar Rodriguez-Lopez is once again acting as producer on the new record, just as he did with 2006's Amputechture and 2005's Frances The Mute. The band, famous for engagingly energetic live performances and their surprising mix of musical influences (rock, jazz, punk, Latin), is laying down tracks at Hollywood's Ocean Way Recording, and aiming for a fall release on Universal.

Joe Strummer track to get exclusive radio play

Clash legend will be aired on BBC

Joe Strummer is to be played exclusively on BBC Radio Ulster's Late Show on Friday (June 22).

The previously unplayed track 'Divorcing Jack' was written by The Clash singer for a film of the same name, but it was never used.

Divorcing Jack author Colin Bateman had kept the recording secret until now, but the song will be played in a Late Show special dedicated to the singer.

Presented by Stuart Bailie, the programme will feature tributes from local fans and associates.

Bailie will also replay a vintage interview between himself and Strummer.

To hear the exclusive programme, tune in to BBC Radio Ulster at 10PM on June 22.

The Jane's Addiction pair argue over their band's split

Jane's Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro has revealed the reasons why the band split for a third time.

The Los Angeles rockers originally split-up in 1991, then briefly reconvened in 1997 before reforming properly in 2002.

They released one album of new material - 'Strays' in 2003 -before promptly splitting again.

Singer Perry Farrell recently claimed that the band began falling apart when Navarro started hosting the reality show 'Rock Star', claiming: "My band broke up basically over reality TV, and I just couldn't believe it."

However, posting on his blog Navarro rejected the frontman's claim, saying: "The timeline just doesn't make sense. I didn't even get a call about the idea of 'Rock Star' until The Panic Channel (Navarro's side project) was recording a demo with Brian Virtue.

In the post Navarro also quoted Farrell's boast that "I brought Jane's Addiction to life, it is only fitting that I am the one to bury her", before taking issue with the claim.

"OK. So which is it?" asked Navarro in the blog. "'Rock Star'? He broke it up? We did? Either way it was four years ago so I think it's about time to let it go."

Traveling Wilburys CDs reissued with care

LOS ANGELES, California (Reuters) -- It was a rock album conceived by accident that no one knew would succeed, even though it was made by Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison, George Harrison, Jeff Lynne and Tom Petty.

And it was a rock album that disappeared, along with its successor, for a decade despite the fame it achieved.

Now the two volumes of "The Traveling Wilburys" are being reissued thanks to efforts made by Harrison's widow Olivia, bringing back to public notice what had started as a kind of fantasy camp for rock stars.

Old friends Harrison, Dylan, Orbison, Petty and Lynne bumped into each other in Los Angeles two decades ago, and ended up in a home recording studio where they sat around a microphone singing and playing guitar.

Over late-night beers and joints, they dubbed themselves the Traveling Wilburys and released the fruits of their labors on a 1988 album titled "Traveling Wilburys Volume 1."

It was a worldwide smash, yielding two hit singles, "Handle with Care" and "End of the Line," and a Grammy. The Wilburys had such a blast that they got together -- without Orbison, who died a few weeks after the release of the first album -- for a 1990 follow-up, jokingly titled "Volume 3."

"It was terrific fun," Petty said in a recent interview. "It's just hard to describe how much much fun it was. No laboring over it."

Both discs have been out of print for a decade, a situation that will be remedied next week when they return to shelves through archival label Rhino Records, accompanied by a new DVD documentary, bonus tracks and other goodies.

The reissue program was overseen by Olivia Harrison, whose husband was the chief Wilbury -- more by default than design.

The friends had originally convened to record a B-side for Harrison, and he realized it would be a crime to consign the tune, "Handle with Care," to obscurity. So why not record an album's worth? Harrison took care of all the business and produced the recordings with Lynne.

It was a pleasant contrast to his days in the Beatles, when his contributions were often overshadowed by the songwriting partnership of John Lennon and Paul McCartney.

Not that he ever pulled rank on his fellow Wilburys.

Harrison considered that his main job was "to protect their friendship," Olivia Harrison said in a telephone interview from the couple's home in England. "He liked to collaborate," she added. "He had a lot of years solo, and he didn't always enjoy that."

The songwriting was a true partnership, with everyone trading lines and shouting out chords. All the members were credited on each song, although the copyrights on the first album were allocated -- not always correctly -- to the member with the most input.

With all the members often busy with other projects -- Dylan was recording his album "Under the Red Sky" in the mornings and the Wilburys' "Volume 3" in the afternoons -- they never got around to touring. But they enthusiastically hatched some bold plans.

Lynne said Harrison wanted to hire an aircraft carrier and play in various exotic locales. They could paint a different corporate sponsor's name on the side every day and call it the Sponsor Ship.

But then, he recalled, everybody would sober up.

Last saturday night I saw CONTROL.

Every year after the Cannes film festival, there are a few indie cinemas in Paris that get to play the films shown at Cannes as part of the "quinzaine des realisateurs" & "selection de la critique" (or whatever it's called).
So on Saturday night I was at le cinema des cineastes in a packed room (yes, it was sold out!) for the screening of CONTROL.
I don't know when it comes out (wherever you are) but I think Joy Division fans will like it. It's really centered on Ian Curtis but the band's a big part of the story (obviously). I doubt anyone who's never cared about JD will give a sod about the film though.

Sam Riley did a fantastic job (in my not so humble opinion). I didn't remember him in 24 Hour Party People (2002) but he played Mark E Smith (The Fall's lead singer, with a little nod to that in Control if you listen carefully). I guess i'll "have" to watch it again...
I've always liked Samantha Morton and she's as good as usual (great actress, I wish she was more exposed, not necessarily more famous, just more recognized/respected).
I didn't know most of the cast but I thought they were all pretty good.
It was cool to see someone else play Tony Wilson (Steve Coogan did a nice job in 24HPP but Craig Parkinson's good too).

Anyone familiar with Anton Corbijn's work will appreciate the cinematography: beautiful black & white, great shots of Macclesfield... I saw an interview with him where he said he took lots of pictures of the band before Ian died & I think he made a video for them using these photos.

Go see it if you like(d) the band/Ian. It's worth it.
I don't know how well it will be distributed though.

Ian Curtis died 10 days after I was born so I never got the chance to see Joy Division.
This film is a nice complement to 24 Hour Party People for those of us who wanted to see more of the Joy Division Story. 24HPP was centered on Tony Wilson & JD was part of his story but Tony's only one of the 5 or 6 secondary characters in Control (which is strictly centered on Ian).

(DES MOINES, Iowa) � Bo Diddley is in intensive care after suffering a stroke in western Iowa, a publicist said Wednesday.

The 78-year-old singer-songwriter-guitarist and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer was listed in guarded condition at Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha, Neb., said Susan Clary, a publicist for the musician's management team.

Diddley, who has a history of hypertension and diabetes, was hospitalized Sunday following a concert in Council Bluffs in which he acted disoriented, she said.

Tests indicated that the stroke affected the left side of his brain, impairing his speech and speech recognition, Clary said.

Clary said she has no other details on Diddley's condition or how long he would be in intensive care.

Diddley, with his black glasses and low-slung guitar, has been an icon in the music industry since he topped the R&B charts with "Bo Diddley" in 1955. His other hits include "Who Do You Love," "Before You Accuse Me," "Mona" and "I'm a Man."

Diddley was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987 and was given a lifetime achievement Grammy in 1998.

Beach Boys� Brian Wilson Finally Defeats One of Mike Love�s Dubious Lawsuits

Two years ago U.S. District Judge Audrey Collins scored a major victory for justice when she ruled portions of the U.S. Patriot Act unconstitutional, but four days ago she may have topped herself by throwing out Mike Love�s ridiculous lawsuit against his cousin and fellow Beach Boy Brian Wilson. Love alleged that a 2004 promotional CD of re-recorded Beach Boys songs that was given out free with a newspaper in London cost him millions of dollars, damaged the reputation of The Beach Boys and violated Love and Wilson�s �partnership.� In a stern, seventeen-page decision Collins rebukes Love and states that any partnership they ever had was a creative - not a business - partnership and ended in the 1960s.

Love has sued Brian numerous times in the past, but this is the first time Brian has prevailed. (In 1994 Love was granted $13 million for songs he claimed to have co-written with Brian in the 1960s.)

Melinda Wilson, Brian�s wife, says, �After Mike�s deposition, he turned to his cousin Brian and said, �you better start writing a real big hit because you�re going to have to write me a real big check.� she says.

But in fact, it was Love�s own deposition testimony that played a role in bringing down his case. The decision repeatedly quotes Love�s own statements from deposition. Example:

Q: And have you and Brian ever had a conversation about what would be done with the songs separate and apart from actually writing them?
Mike Love: I don�t � I don�t recall any conversation like that.

Quotes like that underscored Collins decision. �Certainly Plaintiff [Love] and Defendant [Wilson] were collaborators,� she wrote. �But Plaintiff�s mere �belief� that they had had a legal partnership and his repeated use of the word �partnership� cannot substitute for evidence that a legal partnership existed. Because no jury could reasonably find that�Plaintiff and Defendant were in a legal partnership in 2004, there is no genuine issue of material fact to submit to a jury and Defendant is entitled to summary judgment.

Collins also points out that Love has repeatedly done the very same thing he accuses his cousin of doing. �[Love] also admits that he re-recorded some of the co-authored songs several times between 1996 and 1998 without first informing [Wilson].�

Courtney Love to sell Kurt Cobain's things

Courtney Love, widow of Nirvana singer Kurt Cobain, says she plans to sell most of his belongings.

"I'm going to have a Christie's auction," Love, 42, tells AOL music Web site Spinner.com. "(My house) is like a mausoleum."

Love and Cobain wed in 1992 and had a daughter, Frances Bean, that year. Cobain committed suicide in 1994.

"My daughter doesn't need to inherit a giant ... bag full of flannel ... shirts," says Love, former frontwoman of the rock band Hole. "A sweater, a guitar and the lyrics to '(Smells Like) Teen Spirit' -- that's what my daughter gets. And the rest of it we'll just ... sell."

No date has been set for the auction, AOL publicist Kurt Patat told The Associated Press on Monday. AOL is owned by Time Warner, CNN.com's parent company.

Love, whose upcoming album is titled, "Nobody's Daughter," says friends support the idea.

"Everyone's been positive and behind me on it," she says. "We'll make a lot of money and give a bunch of it to charity."

She'll have a chance to move on from Cobain, too.

"I still wear his pajamas to bed. How am I ever going to go form another relationship in my lifetime wearing Kurt's pajamas?"

Singer Chris Cornell (music) and indie-music promoter Jeff McClusky will be honored at the third-annual Musicares Map Fund Benefit concert, which is set to take place May 11 in Hollywood, CA.
