In my opinion you should trust your family doctor (unless you think he/she has done something terribly wrong to you) :-)

If the blood test came back normal (which I believe is your case) you shouldn't be worrying too much. There are certain limits as to what blood test results entail. It shows you the break down of cell and platelet counts, blood clotting times, and (more specifically, if any) clotting factor deficiency that might result in your condition (an expensive test!!). Chances are in your age group they almost always come back within the normal ranges, except in some rare cancers of the blood which has a different breakdown of cell counts. But, mind me saying that, the chances of "blood cancer" (leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma, cellular dysplastic disease) is rare in young people, and if your doctor suspects you are having one he will send you to do more detailed blood tests straight away.

You can ask your doctor to do repeated blood tests if you are not rest assured about your current problem, and he/she will be more than willing to take blood from you.

It is not in an appropriate position for me to "instruct" your doctor what blood test should be done for you (hope you understand my position, and your doctor can be many many years senior than me with far more experience in handling your case)

Leaving what can be wrong with your blood. Some people were born with thinner capillaries (small blood vessels) that are more prone to burst if environmental changes occur. Your problem started when you were 13 (HK --> Canada)... I call that a big change in environment (much cooler, and dryer due to the use of radiator/heat fan)... these may predispose you to bleeding problem, which is not uncommon in the immigrant families. Nosebleed in young people are often self limiting (not so in the elderly). You can ask your doctor to refer you to an ENT specialist who will look at the architecture of your blood vessels in the nose, and to cauterize (burn) the accessory vessels that bleed often, which may solve the problem.

The other more sinisterous problem is nasopharynegal cancer. But this is 99.999% unlikely if your problem has a good 8 years duration, and given your age (21). However, your dad and mom are in the right age category for that, especially if they are Cantonese grew up in HK / Guangdong province.

I hope this brings some reassurance to you... Trust your doctor, and if you think he/she's not up to the job, go for 2nd opinion (don't mind paying the extra), and if you are in Canada, it's covered anyways!

Good luck!
