Not long ago an UN report states that France has the best public health care in the world... both in terms of "value for money" and her population coverage.

The UK lag behind France in both indicators. Hong Kong... didn't pay attention to that.

There are many aspects of "medical standards"... to name a few (to confuse you:P)... the best available care? The best available care with respect to its cost? The best available care that covers all citizens (and patients and pregnant women from... abroad??)? In short, Hong Kong is not bad as it is providing health care to her citizens at minimal cost, every gov't hospital bed is heavily subsidized by HK gov't... without that you are expecting to pay tens and hundreds of thousands per night stay, and also the same for simple operations like to have an inflamed appendix removed.

I also think that as China's getting rich her health care system will be matching (if not surpassing) that of HK, especially in rural areas away from big cities where deprivation was and remained the main issue. The big city hospitals are a close parallel to many of HK hospitals, some even better than HK because they are newly built to accommodate all modern medical facilities (again, all of these brought to you at what cost?)
