Susan,

I won’t correct you because you are not wrong. No, I was not at the meeting that was held between your group and the Dracut Police Department. Information that I did quote was from the newspaper. I would not go as far as saying it was here say though. From the paper to postings in the forum, a bit of unsatisfied vibes were given out.

First of all, I commend you and your group in the Marsh Hill area for taking on a subject and approaching the proper individuals with it. It’s a shame that we don’t see more of that in Dracut. As you have seen in past postings that a few other select individuals have contacted the Dracut Police Department about problem areas. I being one of them individuals that have done so, I was very pleased with the professional manner I received from the department. They met my request and placed the visualized radar display in the problem area. I have also noticed an increase of police presence within the area. I also take note that a quick solution cannot correct this problem, but little steps are the first place to start in the right direction.

Let’s face the facts that you have given. First of all, go back and read my posting. I never said that out of the motor vehicle violations in the Marsh Hill area were “ALL” your neighbors. I quoted the information that out of 200 plus citations, a good majority of them were given to your neighbors. I merely suggested for your group by meeting with a larger portion of your neighbors and discussing that issue, that it is a step that can be taken to help resolving speeding. I see that you agree with me on that it wouldn’t hurt.

It is good to see that you took some time and did a survey by using the radar display. You are correct that Marsh Hill Rd. is nothing more than a through way from Rte. 38 to 113. Mainly used to get to and from 93. Old Marsh Hill Rd. is used as a though way from Rte. 38 to 113 also, but this for people heading toward Lowell. I took the time one morning to sit myself on Old Marsh Hill Rd. and wait for a good grouping of cars. What I got was a group of six cars (all with NH plates) and followed in on the convoy. The convoy took me from Old Marsh Hill Rd. to Rte 113 and left onto Arlington. It then connected to Methuen St. to Haverhill St. and right onto 110 toward Lowell, and up onto the rotary. Why? Probably to avoid the Bridge St. traffic in Lowell (If they think their saving time, well, no comment).

I agree with the Dracut Police Department on the speed bumps and sidewalks. The speed bumps are a recipe for disaster. The sidewalks maybe on one side, but not both.

All in all, I commend you and your group’s actions on this issue. I apologize if you may have taken offense to my posting title. My posting wasn’t meant to be offensive to you and your group, but a suggestion to the community in whole that we do have a problem with speeding and reckless driving. What are the problem areas, and what may be your ideas to help correct the problem?

I will supply you in this forum with a detail list of some ideas that may help in your fight. If you and your group find that the information may be helpful, I will send you a hard copy.
