Subject: SS Talent

OK so to win overall talent at Shining Stars Natural Nationals you lip sink to a song and swish your dress a bit and you can win
Wow wish I had know that and I would not have spent all the time and Money have my daughter learn a talent.

She couldn't have won overall by much. Alex and I made up her routine on our own and managed to pull off a huge win! I'll tell ya, she scored pretty much next to perfect, so don't give up. Just let your child's natural ability shine, that's what we did!

Well, remember that the big titles are pulled first - grands and minis then the overalls. so maybe the highest scoring talents were pulled out and she was next in line. Just a possiblility.

Talent was double crowned, one of the grands also won her age division talent. You could of won overall talent and a grand. Cause you paid extra for talent.

that little girl had personality comming out her ears. She could of sold anything.Sometimes talent is more then dancing.you have to have personality and presence to go along with it.I see lots of dancers that go on stage and dont smile once or have any change of face at all, almost like they dont enjoy it.like theyn said on those talent shows.talent can come easy but to sell it is another thing. You have to look like you love live and breath it.and we dont always see it,but that little girl had it.and she won them over, maybe there were better talents but that day it was her day.it is a opinion and it wont change so next time just work harder and shine more, eventually they will all be winners.

HS is a beautiful girl. While i think that other talents were more hard, talent is also based on performing for their AGE. For her age, she had a cute routine dance and she looked cute as a button doing it. I can't say i dont see why other parents were mad, but i do think she deserved a win. she was sooo cute.

personally speaking, I LOVED alex's talent. That girl danced beautifully and she touched me in a way that made me cry. I wasn't the only one. I saw it in the faces of other people in the audience. She didn't need to smile, the way she presented herself and her expressive arm movements said it all. That girl has talent with a capital T.

I agree with you on this. Alex's dance was beautiful. Dance has many different facets. The dance Alex did was not a dance you go around smiling in. If you watched the talent portion of the competition, all of the girls did very well. I know the talent winner totally deserved the crown she got!

Talent does not come easy. Some have put in years of classes and practice to achieve the level they are at. I wasn't at this pageant, so I am just speaking in generalities, but I would be upset if a fluff "talent" beat out a true talent.

I have the same frustration when a kid does awful in beauty, has a bad fitting dress or messy hair, then goes out and jumps around during OOC and somehow wins...
It's called a Beauty Pageant, not a Personality pageant.

The thing that aggravates me is when they say "no routines" and of course the ones that win are the ones with routines. If you are going to make the rules follow them!

Normally that means no pro am which are splits and kicks above the knee. Routines are great to watch and shows they are dedicated and having fun and most of all personality! If they dont want to be trust me it shows.

I was referring to casual wear and beauty.

Then maybe you should only enter your daughter in glitz pageants. Most of the natural pageants are judged on beauty and personality(maybe you should read the paperwork a little better), not who can teach their child a fake smile, or step, step, turn.

I cannot believe some of the comments I am reading on here about beautiful young ladies that deserve to be PRAISED for going out on stage and doing what they do.

rather than running around. Not speaking about SS in particular as I was not there. Just speaking in general.

If the judging is based on (just for example) 75% facial beauty and 25% personality and poise the girl with the best "routine" will not always win.

I think all of the girls that go out on stage deserve our respect and praise. I just wish more of the comments here were positive.
