Hi There! This is Dana, and first let me say THANKS to those of you who have came on this board to say nice things about me and IOD. That means a lot to me. I feel way more confident as a director now that this bash has happened. All I ever wanted to do while directing IOD is to create a pageant family where girls and parents are made to feel special. I say IOD isnt just a pageant, it's a party with new and old friends! I hope that ALL the contestants that "compete" at IOD, feel like they are part of the Island family.

As for being "unprofessional" no, I am really not. So if you are looking for a Professional director, you will have to look elsewhere, because I run a tight ship, but NOT for my benefit but for the GIRLS benefit. I feel more like a pageant "facilitator" than a director most of the time. I am setting up the environment for girls to compete, offering awards, and locating judges and staff. Beyond that, winners are out of my control.

If you have questions about IOD, please feel free to email me:
iodpageant@yahoo.com
I try VERY hard to answer EVERY question presented to me in a timely manner. So you can feel confident that if you have a problem with IOD, that I would love to hear what you have to say.

So this is also a personal invitation to join our Island Family! We are a family, not a click, so ANY pageant family is welcome!

Thanks, Dana

Somebody hates IOD and you write it off as someone just found Voy? I know of much better systems. IOD is a clique of moms and girls headed by the director. If I want my daughter to join a clique I can wait for her to be in HS!

That you have to come on here and post your stupid crap. My daughter competed in an IOD prelim and I thought it was a great fair system with many nice helpful people(no, my daughter did not win). Maybe if YOU were a little nicer and a little less nasty, people would be nicer to you.

Sounds like someone is a sore loser.

I am just really curious as to why you are saying the things you are saying. Is it just something personal you have against the directors? I am sure if you would have taken the time to email them in private they would have been more than happy to discuss the issue(s) with you.

Michigan doesn't have a large pageant group. It's only natural that many people know each other and are freindly. that's not a "clique".

You know, my daughter has never competed in IOD but I have been to one of their pageants and I liked it! It was ran great and judging was fair. I think it's a great little inexpensive NATURAL pageant and that is exactly what this state needs in our current financial times.

Also, what is wrong with knowing the people that run it? We are such a small close knit pageant group here in Michigan so where do you think you are going to go in this state that you DON'T know some of the people running it! JMO

[> [> [> [> waht do you mean? Precious Faces is not a clique? -- Anonymous, 06:02:49 10/14/09 Wed [1]

Precious Faces is a good one, her daugher has competed in pageants for over 6 years, I remember them at a mall pageant, Just because you are close to people and their families, afterall we know each other, doesnt ,mean she is a click.

Beimg we are the worst state to live in, directors are coming togather and holding Duo's to keep prices down. I'm sure as the economy gets worst, more people will complain and become haters. I think someday pageants will not be around, if that's what you want, stay away from pageants and let the children enjoy it, parents remember, it's for kids to gain confidence and skills! I think some of us are not mature enough to handle fun compeition, it's like a sport, you win and losoe some but at the end of the day we are all winners. It's ashame we have to become haters to feel better about your self.

There are a lot of good systems out there, AND OF COURSE WH LIKE OR DONT LIKE THEM. It's your choice but stop the hating and stay away from those who can't stand or system. We all have opinions but seriously, grow up and move on to the next pageant.

Let me guess....your daughter didn't win at the duo?

What exactly do you think is wrong with these systems? Just because people are friendly to each other you think you can bash the systems? Would rather see parents fighting and being nasty with each other? Sad.

[> [> [> [> [> Re: Are you kidding me? -- Anonymous, 06:10:21 10/14/09 Wed [1]

I agree! All I see here is mothers who have nothing better to do than to whine because their child didnt' win. If you can't handle it, then stay away from pageants, dont ruin it for otheres are in it for the right reasons. Stop it and get involved with a different hobby. That's I sais hobby, pageants are a hobby, hello people not life or death.

[> Grow Up -- Anonymous, 06:17:26 10/14/09 Wed [1]

As part of the IOD FAMILY I'm sorry you feel the way you do. When we competed in our first IOD prelim we had a great time from the start. Whether or not you won at an IOD pageant you are treated the same. We are a family. The last one we were at a mom had her hair person not show up and everyone was running around trying to find someone to do hair for her girls. I have never been treated better at a pageant. Maybe part of the reason you feel it is a clique is because you exclude yourself.

[> [> Re: Grow Up -- Anonymous, 06:28:37 10/14/09 Wed [1]

I'm part of the both IOD and Precious FAces royalty and love them both! I've also lost at Sunburst, Shining Stars, Dixieland and AGG, SGG but you don't see me whining and crying. My family enjoys pageants for the best reasons, we are togather and laugh when things get harry. I see the same pageant moms complain and turn around and compete at that very same system and complain, for what? GLory? Or do you see your child in the wrong way?

Why wouldnt you see pageant families? I see them everywhere enven at national pageants and let me tell you, there are there for each other and applaud each other like a amily does.

Wow someone must have woke up on the wrong side of the bed. For one I don't want directors to be "professional" I want them to be personable and allow my dd to have a good time. Its not a corporation. If any pageant were run like that we wouldn't do it. We have a few local pageants that are run like that and they SUCK for lack of a better word. Those pageants are why we do ones like IOD. If you feel the Director isn't professional because she takes the time to talk to the moms and create a relationship with them then you have the wrong idea. Maybe she didn't single you out and make you feel extra special. Suck it up. She doesn't pick favorites and makes every contestant feel special. What more can you ask for?

I for one have to say that IOD is a great system! We have competed and loved it! We have been made to feel like we are part of a family, and my DD loves that aspect. We do other pageants in MI, but as the economy is going to he** and has been for some time, I think it's great that directors are coming together to help not only the contestants, but each other as well. Pageanting isn't about cut throat crap. If youa re doing pageants for the right reason you are doing it to instill some confidence and morals and friendship into your daughters. Pageanting is about making friends and learning to get along with other people even though you may want to beat them with a higher title. Do we want our daughters to end up like all the girls that we see on TV and their mothers as well?
I will continue to do IOD and we will continue to do other pageants outside of Michigan as well until my DD decides that she doesn't want to compete anymore.

You may like IOD...I don't but thats just me-and I am not the original poster-but do not convince yourselves that the IOD director is some kind of martyr. She barters with other directors for free entrys for her baby and if that is happening do you really believe the outcomes are always determined fairly? Did anyone notice she takes off to some fancy vacation directly following the state pageant? She is a BUSINESS lady and makes her vacation funds with this system. Thats fine and ethical but don't believe shes "nice" because she likes you...she is doing business and plasters on the smile the same as a saleman working for commission acts like he is your best friend. My daughter was part of IOD and I overheard the scores being determined according to who the director wanted to win and ties being broken so that certain people moved up the win line. I heard the comments she makes about all these "friends" and "Pageant family". I do not need or want friends or family who would speak about me that way. The original poster or the second one whoever said it was right about it being a click. Click girls gossip about the ones not present. Be honest with yourself...have you NEVER heard her speak about someone else? Do you think you are the only one she doesn't gossip about?

The real issue for me is that the first IOD prelim my daughter was in, she had her eye on a certain Barbie during the WHOLE pageant. My daughter did not win, but the IOD director made sure my daughter received that certain Barbie as her gift....and no I didn't know the director before hand. My daughter walked away feeling VERY special and that is what matters to me.

So if you have another "real" issue you should probably email the director. I think she posted her email here, but I am thinking you might already have it. ;)

I was responding to the "this has nothing to do with the children" statement. Not yours. It doesn't surprise me that Dana would do that regardless of what has been said in earlier NASTY posts IOD is all about the girls.
