Hello Mrs. Ewing, thank you for responding to me little message. I can't imagine who the Keebler elf is but I'll guess the crayons have something to do with drawing so maybe it's one of the so called artists in town? With the number of people calling themselves that these days that could be any of so many. I'm just trying to imagine which one lives in a hole in a tree!

I personally avoid making any comments on that board because I just can't stand so much negativity. Even if what they say there is true it wouldn't hurt to put something positive up. I don't know why more people use this board. I look at it as the opposite of that one and it could do Newburgh a lot of good if there was enough chat going here on some of the nicer things about the city. Don't you think so?

SHOT? The peacocks were SHOT? I shouldn't be surprised, I know. But if they'll shoot the peacocks, that's terrible. Something else my old heart will break over.

Which one is "Miss Ellie" if I may ask? 1947 is a little before my own time (only a little) but I still remember the tulips and the roses. I remember the wysteria on the pergola and I remember when there was a flag at the circle up on the hill. How time has taken all but the memories. I remember there was a summer some time ago when somebody planted flowers up where the flag used to be. The place started to look so much better for a while. But like everything else in town. What can I say?

I would love to get planting in the park. I haven't been all too well enough lately to promise anything more than to promise you that I will make the best effort I can. I'll look forward to the spring now. Maybe we could plant a few things, tend to a few gardens and then sit and have some tea in the shade. (I've always found a nice iced tea, a touch of honey, a twist of lemon and about a half cup of good vodka is very refreshing after a nice day's work in the sun and soil.)

Thank you Mrs. Ewing. Your messages are a tonic to be sure. And I'll keep in touch. Like I say, maybe if somebody stumbles on this board and sees good conversation the traffic will pick up and Newburgh will get a better head start.

Stay warm dear Mrs. Ewing.
