Subject: Brazilian Elections

Dear Editor,

After reading articles on the upcoming Brazilian election, I noticed that the elections there are similar to those that happen in America. It seems that the candidates are so concerned about bashing each other, that it becomes more of a fight between which candidate can make the other look worse rather than focusing on the positive things they could achieve given the opportunity.

In my opinion, the main reason Silva seems to be in the lead is because he has proved himself to so many people with his efforts in helping the poor. If people voted in a new president, there is no past history they can look at, rather they would have to trust that he or she could continue the good work of Silva. Even though there was a huge scandal that involved Silva and his party, it seems that the people think he has done more good than bad and therefore he should be re-elected. He has helped over 180 billion people financially with the programs he has put together. Since there are so many people he has helped, he has a numerous percent of the votes from them.

Many people feel that he is not to blame for the scandal that happened, so they do not hold this against him. Even those that do feel he is to blame may also feel that even though he may not be the best for the position, he is still the strongest candidate. If they change presidents, that means they will have to risk losing everything he has done for them, and some people feel that risk is too big.
