Subject: Brazilian Elections

The recently publicized scandals of the elections in Brazil, in my opinion, should not have a complete effect on how the citizens of Brazil should vote. From reading several articles, President da Silva has done plenty for the people in Brazil who were overlooked - the lower class hard workers who stand as the backbone of the country. He has made social programs for the poor. More than 11 million families benefit from the Family Allowance plan. Programs like this allowed Brazil’s economy to flourish during the da Silva’s first term. Also, he created more jobs for Brazilian’s which in turn positively influence the economy.
My opinion is based upon the fact that I grew up in a blue-collar family. My mother works in the automobile industry. Our family votes for the Democratic party, the politicians that usually have policies favoring lower and middle class families.
Furthermore, the scandal surrounds the allegation that da Silva tried buying damaging information about his opponent, Alkmin. Why is it that all information about any political candidate isn’t released to the public so they can form their own opinions about the subject matter? I believe all issues should be straightforward and laid out for all citizens to see. The fact that there is damaging information about his opponent shows that he might not do as significant of a job as da Silva did for the lower class citizens.
All in all, da Silva is a popular choice among Brazilians and if they still vote for him despite the scandal, obviously the progress he’s made for Brazil is a huge step forward for the country, and not just for his own personal gain.
