To The New York Times
Letter to the Editor

Dear Sirs,

I’m sure that each Brazilian citizen is aware of the urgent need of a new ethical team capable of doing more for our Country. We feel uncomfortable because of so many scandals during these last months.

Unfortunately it is now the turn of someone else, because Lula already had his chance. Brazilian people trusted him. I voted for Lula in 2002, despite not being addicted to PT party, because I fully believed that something could be changed after so many years of dictatorship. However, we must recognize that Lula is not that bad president; he tried to focus on economy and social welfare programs. Actually, I’m convinced that he is not totally guilty concerning the current facts. This situation has been coming from many years of corruption from former governments. He is a man of good feelings, worried about the poor people.

Unfortunately we know that all these qualities are not enough to make a good President of such a big country like Brazil. Indeed, we all became disappointed, when at the last minute, Lula pulled out of the TV debate with his three main opponents last week. Regretfully, a great deal of the news running by media all over the world is true. However we are doing our best to rescue our dignity, being able to practice Democracy.

Yours faithfully,
Margaret Horta Nassif
