My only experience in leaving my home is moving into the dorms here at Wayne State. Before coming to college I was a very family oriented person; my family always gotten together on Sundays to spend time together. Leaving for the first time was quite stressful. I did not know how much I would see my family or if I would make any new friends. The friends that I have made here are amazing. Although they do not take the place of my family, they definitely help to ease the pain of not seeing my family so often. I believe that leaving for college was a great step for me to take. I agree with you that it is good to learn how to be independent. Although the transition can be rough, it will most definitely be beneficial in the long run.
