UTSOA-CRP students:

Below is a message from Corrina Kester on UTīs new membership in the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education - nice work! Especially great news for CRP students interested the intersections of sustainable community development and formal education - including interest in:
school district planning (at least one CRPer has completed an internship with the AISD in recent years),
facilities design and development (an ed. doctoral student recently completed a dissertation on this topic, in partnership with faculty members of the UTSOA)
experiential formal education pedagogical approaches, such as service-learning, where education and community development are combined - including in the schooling of planners.

It looks like you can take a course in Leadership Towards a Sustainable World taught by Corinna during the Fall Semester - or other courses created and taught by students (I think, for credit now, through the Humanities Dept) via UTīs DemTex program - Democratic Education at Texas

Hereīs the message from Corinna about the AASHE:
------------------------------------------
. . . I would like to inform everyone of our [UTīs] membership in AASHE,
the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher
Education. Thank you very much to EHS for securing the membership
this year.

Everyone on the UT campus can now access AASHE's members-only
resource database. You can create a new account at http://
www.aashe.org/members/createaccount.php ; then head over to the
Resource Center at http://www.aashe.org/resources/resource_center.php

AASHE's biennial conference will be October 4-6 at Arizona State
University in Tempe, AZ. It is entitled "The Role of Higher
Education in Creating a Sustainable World." You can register and learn more at http://www.aashe.org/conference/

Thank you,
