Subject: Former Miss IL

Does anyone know the name of a former Miss Illinois, I can't remember her name but she was from Barrington? She won the title and went to Miss America and then didn't return to state to crown her successor. What was her name, and does anyone know the story behind why she didn't return to crown her successor, and what is she doing now?

I know Tonya; met her last year at ms Il. Believe me she would have loved to be there, but the power that was (fran) wouldn't let her.

That is a huge lie. She was to be at the pageant but was a no show. Several phone calls were made to track her down. I know this because everyone was trying to find her. She was supposedly at a retreat somewhere and felt that was more important. She was hard to work with the whole year of her reign. She complained to newspapers that she did not like the system. I know this because I was on the inside. She got mad because she did not get Miss America and blamed Illinois. However, she would not diet and refused to abide by the rules. She was told to lose weight and given help with it. I am not bashing her at all but the facts should be told.

I've been one of those queens alldedgedly hard to work with under fran and what she said about me wasn't true either. I worked hard that year booking appearances & PR and the ED claimed the credit! I believe Tonya, not you. Our history with the the domineering ED rings too familiar. Tonya's parents were in the audience -- did you bother to talk to them? Tonya wasn't even mentioned in the program. And what about the original ms il from that year -- what happened to her?
And btb, you are bashing Tonya: She was at the Miss Chicago 1996 pageant (I think that was feb '96?) and performed wonderfully -- I guess you didn't look very hard. Did you try calling amalia? She looked great and sang even better.
I understand she was disqualified from ms A because the ED didn't file her paperwork on time!!!! Her whole trip and effort was wasted because of ED.
I recently spoke with MS A execs. They believe us.
