  • Is Lisa Allen related to last year's Miss Illinois... they look alike (NT) -- fan, 21:32:18 10/20/06 Fri
  • Problems in Minnesota? -- Katie, 20:50:58 10/03/06 Tue [10]

Someone posted on another board that there are problems in Minnesota because another local bit the dust. Is it true that there will only be 15 girls at state next year? Why is this happening? How many locals are there in Wisconsin and Illinois? I'm pretty sure more than 15.

Here is the link to a video interview with Nicole Swanson. It states that she is one of the best violin players in the country and I would have to agree. I really think she is going to be in the top 5.

  • Fairness in Pageants -- Chicago Sue, 06:59:38 10/18/06 Wed [2]

Are pageants fair in your state? Local and State? Im just wondering if anyone thinks there are politics involved in outcomes, who you have to coach with, buy clothes from, kiss up to. In Illinois, there are some really fair locals and some not so fair.

  • Miss Columbus Pageant? -- Has anyone heard of this?, 21:52:56 10/04/06 Wed [2]

COLUMBUS - They come from different states, five different backgrounds, but they all have one thing in common - they all hold the title of Miss Columbus. On Friday night, one of the five contestants will also be able to call herself Miss Columbus U.S.A. at the pageant being held for the first time ever in Wisconsin.

Competing for the title will be -

    Miss Columbus, Wis., Megan Clark
    Miss Columbus, Texas, Chelsea Kneblik
    Miss Columbus, N.C., Noelle Clark
    Miss Columbus, Ga., Chasity Hardman
    Miss Columbus, Kan., Charla Atkinson

Also on hand Friday will be the reigning Miss Columbus U.S.A., Catheryn Shaw, of Columbus, Ga.

The contestants and their entourage will arrive in Wisconsin on Thursday and will have four days full of activities awaiting them. "Things are going very well," said pageant coordinator Becky Stark. "I'm very pleased with the amount of support we are receiving from the community."

The pageant has been a way of uniting the more than 20 communities in the United States named Columbus. Each year the number of contestants changes due to school commitments by the girls and travel costs. The actual pageant will be held Friday night at Bobby G's. Saturday will be a day to explore. On Saturday morning, the Miss Columbuses will head to Madison, where they will be the special guests at a tea at the governor's mansion and will then tour the State Capitol Building. They will be back in town in the afternoon to attend special Columbus Harvest Day activities, as well as also having the opportunity to explore the city.

Saturday night will mark a special reunion of all the Wisconsin Miss Columbuses. The 42 title holders have been invited to join the national Miss Columbuses at a reception at Columbus Country Club. Sunday morning, the national Miss Columbuses will be the guests of honor at the annual firefighers' breakfast held at the fire station.

Judges for this year's contest have a distinguished pageant background. They will be reigning Miss Wisconsin Meghan Coffey; former Mrs. Dodge County Jill Bennett; and Marijo Reed, a Miss U.S.A. Pageant Committee member from Oconomowoc.

  • Miss Southwest MN -- Fan, 06:29:45 10/02/06 Mon [1]

Why do they have such a hard time getting contestants for Miss Southwest MN? I do not understand it. If these locals would get more contestants, we could open the door for more locals and get more girls to state. But at this point, it looks like there just is no interest in this program in our state! Why? How can we promote it more? There should be more attention given to the program on college campuses. Nicole should make some appearances there to drum up interest. Hopefully, state will set that up for her.

It's nice to see a forum where we can talk about all 3 of the midwest pageants. I'm from IL but I attend the WI pageant every year if I am able to. I saw the current Miss WI at our pageant this year but I'm wondering why Miss IL and MN never go to each other's pageants or the WI pageant? You would think the reps would visit each other's states

  • New Miss Minnesota Directors -- Is this common?, 13:37:26 09/30/06 Sat [2]

Is it common for state directors to step down while a family member competes in that state? Aren't most state directors older?

Former Miss Frazee, Vergas co-director of Miss Minnesota

    Jennifer Hagman
    • by Sarah Rabideaux

Jennifer Hesby Hagman, Miss Vergas 1991 and Miss Frazee 1992, has teamed up with Lori Ziebarth, Coon Rapids, as Co-Executive Directors of the Miss Minnesota organization for the 2007 year.

The two will help Miss Minnesota 2006, Nicole Swanson, prepare for the Miss America pageant held in Las Vegas the week of Jan. 30.

They will also play a large part in the organizing of the Miss Minnesota pageant June 15-16 when 16 candidates vie for the crown of Miss Minnesota 2007.

"And we do this while we take care of our families and work a full-time job," said Hagman. "It's a lot of evening and weekend work."

The two have been chosen by the Miss Minnesota organization board to fill the position created when the past executive director Kim Knuttila stepped down.

"Her sister won a local pageant," added Hagman, "and to keep all fairness, she can not have any contact with the organization."

Both are not new to the organization,

each already holding a position. Hagman is the volunteer coordinator and Ziebarth is the business manager.

"All members are 100 percent volunteers," she added. "No one is paid for the work they do for the Miss Minnesota organization."

Hagman has been responsible in previous years for coordinating the volunteers for the events that take place during pageant week of the Miss Minnesota competition.

Hagman, the daughter of the late Frank Hesby and Linda Hesby, Frazee, makes her home in New Richmond, Wis., just across the Minnesota border, she adds.

A 1991 Frazee High School graduate, she is married to Jeff and they have two children, Jessica, 4, and Jacob, 2. She has worked as an office equipment lease representative for US Bank for 12 years.

"This will be a transition year for Lori and I," Hagman said, "and each year after. We will be sharing the position as long as Kim's sister continues to win pageants, and Kim supports her."
