Subject: Problems in Minnesota?

Someone posted on another board that there are problems in Minnesota because another local bit the dust. Is it true that there will only be 15 girls at state next year? Why is this happening? How many locals are there in Wisconsin and Illinois? I'm pretty sure more than 15.

Wisconsin has always had a strong base of closed city pageants such as La Crosse, St. Francis, Racine, Oshkosh, Milwaukee, West Allis, etc. But in recent years, there has been a strong increase in opens. Just a few years ago I believe there was only like three or four, last year there was seven, and this year there will be eight. Directors who either had a closed local or still do stepped it up a notch and also provided a one day open pageant to give more girls a chance to go to Miss WI. In the La Crosse area, they awarded four titles in one day in their March Super Saturday of Pageants, and I see where this year Racine is holding a Festival of Trees open pageant in conjunction with that event.... in addition to their closed Miss Racine pageant.
There are many dedicated directors in our state, and I believe the field directors also actively seek out other communities in our state that aren't currently represented in the MWO as to the possibility of obtaining a franchise.

It doesnt cost any more yet allows more girls to have titles and compete at state. -- Other states should follow these guidelines, looks like its been very successful for Wisconsin., 21:59:28 10/19/06 Thu [1]

[> Maybe Twin Cities will crown a Miss Metropolitan too. Why dont more locals crown two girls so we can get more of them to state? The costs are the same except a small scholarship amount and a crown. -- We are too large of a state to be having so few girls at state., 06:13:28 10/07/06 Sat [1]

[> Aquatennial is huge here in Minnesota. Most rural communities left MAO in the last two decades for Aquatennial- usually citing the swimsuit category as its source of controversy. I believe the only answer is for more Twin Cities based "open" pageants. -- MN Fan, 19:28:14 10/18/06 Wed [1]
