TRANCE-BLUESMAN OTIS TAYLOR ON "WEEKEND EDITION"

WASHINGTON, DC - Telarc Records artist OTIS TAYLOR
was featured on the nationally syndicated "Weekend Edition" (www.npr.org) on Sunday, July 6.

During the interview, Taylor discussed material from his new CD, Truth Is Not Fiction. Noted for it's bold mixture of poignant subject matter (i.e. rape, murder) with unique instrumentation, (i.e. cello, banjo, no drums) the disc is earning Taylor praise for a progressive style which is pointing blues music in a forward direction. The Chicago Tribune writes, "In expanding the subject matter of the blues, and working new variations on its acoustic roots, Taylor is suggesting new possibilities for a musical art form that many people fear has grown stagnant."

Truth contains 12 songs each conveying a weighty theme. But according to Blues Revue, "Taylor's ability to balance darkness and light is a major aspect of his effectiveness; even though he sings unrelentingly of tragedy, loss, grief, and death, something buoyant comes through in the music, in his light touch on guitar and banjo, in the confident grooves he lays down with the assistance of just a few backing musicians."

While on a lengthy hiatus from the music business, Taylor became a successful antiques dealer and managed the first professional black bicyle team in Colorado. Shortly following his return to music, in 2001, he was honored with the W.C. Handy Award (blues equivalent to the Grammy) for "Best New Artist. " He resides in Boulder, CO. with his wife and two daughters. The elder is 16 year old Cassie, who provides the baleful background vocals on his recordings and tours around the world with him.
