Singer/songwriter Warren Zevon succumbed to cancer Sunday, September 7, 2003, at home in his sleep.

The father of two, and grandfather of two, was most known for the rock hit "Werewolves of London." A Chicago native of Russian immigrants, Zevon moved to Los Angeles in the 60s, writing commercial jingles. He also worked for the Everly Brothers, and composed a song for the movie "Midnight Cowboy." His first album was released in 1969, and he continued writing music, for himself and for others, until his death.

A former smoker, Zevon announced in September 2002 that had terminal lung cancer. He spent his final months visiting with family and working on his album, "The Wind," released in August 2003.

"You make choices and you have to live with the consequences."

Zevon was 56.
