No holidays? Or no religious holidays in public schools? By changing the notion to "holidays" instead of "Christmas" you can actually celebrate the holiday without sponsoring a particular religion in a public school. That is the whole point (as well as why it is unique to the USA; we have a constitutional amendment about the government sponsoring a particular religion, because our founding fathers were particularly frightened by the tendency for majority religions to become onerous to minority religions).
