We've been there in October several times. No crowds, no traffic. Very few kids because school is in session. We have never waited for a table at any restaurant. Weather is usually good, little rain. I think it was in the 85-89 degree range during our Oct trip this year. BUT, our Oct vacation this year was cut short and ruined by the threat of Hurricane Wilma. So there is always the hurricane factor. I can't really compare the shelling, since I am not familiar with what it is like in June. We were also in Sanibel this month, and I wouldn't go back again in December. October is much better, even with the threat of hurricanes.
