>Janie-We have been to Sanibel in July,Feb.,September and October. September and October are our favorite times to go. The island is usually quiet and not to busy. We are early eaters like between 5:30 and 6:30 and never wait in lines. We have never experianced much rain at that time of year except for 2004 when we were on the island during hurricane Dennis. But the next day or 2 after a hurricane are typically beautiful because the sun comes out and the storm sucks up all the humidity and no-seeums. Traffic is minimal and beaches are not crowded. Of course it is hurricane season as is the summer and you can't bet on that no matter when you go during the season. As far as shelling it just depends on the sea and the storms. My philosophy is there are fewer people so there are more shells per person! We have always come home with our share. Good luck I hpoe you find it as relaxing as we do.
