We have always seen a lot of pen shells. With all of the shells there, we generally wear water shoes on the beach (those lightweight neoprene shoes that are ankle high and have semi-hard rubber bottoms). We take them off in the water, where there are fewer exposed shells, and the buoyancy takes some of the weight off of our feet.
