A lot of people have recommended that place (Cheeseburger); I never thought much of it. Traders is good (they have a good mixed greens salad with seared tuna and wasabi vinagarette). I like Doc Fords (mojitos, pulled pork sandwich, fish tacos), Lazy Flamingo (key lime pie, grouper basket). Ding Darling is a nice place, but there is an Audobon Sanctuary on the mainland 45 minutes from the causeway called Corkscrew Swamp that is excellent for seeing birds and gators. San Cap foundation is a nice place for a hike as well. I like the Lighthouse cafe for breakfast. People speak well of the other breakfast place at the far end of Periwinkle, but I haven't tried that one myself. Also, we have always enjoyed Island Cow.

If you like kayaking or canoeing, there is a really great place on Captiva, called Captiva Kayak. It is on Andy Rosse on the right side of the main drag (away from Mucky Duck, etc. Really good gear, and a nice canoe trail nearby on Buck Key (they have maps to show you how to get there) as well as reasonably easy trip to Blind Pass through Roosevelt Channel.
