I would think it more likely that a week is too short. There are many nice beaches for walking, swimming and shelling, great kayaking (Captiva Kayak on Captiva), many bicycle trails, nature trails (San Cap foundation, Ding Darling), museums (Shell museum and a nature 'museum' at Ding Darling, LOTS of restaurants, fishing, birding (a great place for this on the mainland is Corkscrew Swamp, 45 minutes from the bridge), not to mention the "relax and hang out" part of the trip.

I like staying in condos, so that we don't always have to eat out, and there are many condos on the island. We stay at Sanibel Moorings and have always enjoyed it, but there are many other options that others swear by.
