SUNPROOF
- To 'sunproof' something, or the art of 'sunproofing', is a term used by vampires to describe the act of making a habitat or area secure. Meaning, a place to sleep without having to worry about the lethal invasion of the sun's UV rays. That means cool, dark, locations...often underground. Tinted windows, blankets, body bags...anything that can be used to keep out every last ray of light, and ensure a vampire's safety.
Sunproofing is especially important to vampires like the characters in "Gone From Daylight", who live in the abandoned car wrecks of an old junkyard. And holes in the sunproofing can mean illness, permanent scarring, and possibly even death, to a vampire whohasn't been thoroughly protected.
VEMPIRAE
- The term 'vempirae' is a very old one. The word itself originated from the vampire language verzpertillio. It means 'vampire', but it refers specifically to Elders, ranging from about 150 to 350 years of age. It is legend that a vampire's 200th birthday (Their bicentenial) is the first of many milestones in the pursuit of true immortality. The vempirae, while highly respected and looked upon as 'royalty' by many of the average modern vampires in darkness...they are still just beginning their journey towards eternity. It is the iluminirae who are the true elders in darkness. And they act as guides to the others who are trying to achieve the level of grace and knowledge that only the iluminirae have.
ILUMINIRAE
- The oldest living vampires in darkness. Practically ageless, the iluminirae are almost seen as a higher species by the majority of the vampire population. existing when all the vampire bloodlines were pure and strong. As the bloodlines branched out over the centuries...bite after bite, crossover after crossover...it is believed that the modern vampires are nowhere NEAR as strong as the real iluminirae once were. But considering that these Elders stay so deeply hidden, unseen by most, it hasn't been proven as fact. At least not yet.
(Note: In verzpertillio...the term 'iluminirae' is actually used to describe 'ALL' of vampire-kind. The word, actually translated, means 'light eyes'. But the term is most widely understood as a term for the Supreme Elders when spoken between them.)
BLOODSMITH
- Whenever a vampire feeds on a donor, there are always complications and possible defects that one has to look out for. Especially since the defects of the donor can end up affecting a vampire for a long period of time after feeding. Drugs, alcohol, high cholesterol, AIDS, and many other blood intoxicants and infections can be passed on to the feeding vamp, and if that happens, they can turn to a 'Bloodsmith' to help them clean their system out again. For a fee, any vampire can see one of these specialists, trained to detect problems and solve them through a steady and safe process of bleeding out the infection and repleshining the blood supply with just enough to get the vampire on his/her feet again and find another donor on their own. A clean and healthy blood supply is important to many vampires who have the money to keep it fresh. This is an especially important procedure for 'Noc Dealers'...who crossover humans for money. In order to keep up a good business reputation, their bite and blood transfer must be healthy, clean, and free from infection.
