- Pheromone 'V' is an odorless pheromone that is instinctively released from a vampire's body when it is feeding on a donor. Through the pores in the skin, and often through the nose and mouth as well. The pheromone is quick in its almost instantaneous seduction of the donor's senses. It saps the body of its strength, and puts the donor into a physical state of bliss, allowing the attacking vampire to feed without a full blown struggle from its host.

However, while the pheromone release calms the body of the donor...it does NOT affect the mind. Basically, the donor feels his or her body giving into the scent, but is still conscious and fully aware of what is happening to them. Often causing a panic, the donor fights to stay alive, but the limbs become weak, and the body becomes sluggish, allowing the vampire to absorb the blood effortlessly. The body often goes into a state of shock, and the donor is pacified until it has been drained completely.

Due to the nature of this pheromone release, 'Slag Hunters' are able to use their technology to track feedings in progress, and arrive on the scene quickly to dispose of the bodies before they are found by anyone else. The residual scent lasts anywhere from 15 to 25 minutes after the feeding has ended, and the vampire has fled the scene.

- A 'Dawning' is a gathering of vampires to celebrate the Sun Quest of another. It is meant to be a celebration of sorts as the vampire makes the choice to pass on to the next plane of existence. Either to search for more answers, to leave the life of darkness behind, to evade a deterioriting mental states (often experienced after a century or more by many vampires who were not meant to be one of the Elders), or to escape starvation from a damaged heart. Whatever the reason, the vampire usually pics a scenic spot where he or she can finally see the sunrise again...one last time.

At this 'Dawning', friends and family often bring gifts of food and drink, the questing vampire's favorites, so that they can, once again, taste all the pleasures of life that they left behind. And at many Dawnings, the vampire gives away personal possessions of his or her own in return. These rituals range anywhere from soft, sad goodbyes, to raging beach parties and raves. From religious services, to road trips across the country to see the ocean. But the point of it all is to say so long to one life, and hello to the next.

Dawnings have been a part of the vampire culture since the beginning of time. Traditions may vary, but the purpose remains the same. To finally be relieved of the burden of darkness.
