From the many different stories I have read there are almost as many ways for the victim to turn into a vampire as there are books about the subject. In earlier books on vampires the simple act of being killed by one was thought to be the cause. Regardless of whether they had bitten you or not. And I have read stories where the vampire can only create one prodigy, through a conscious act on the part of the sire. Also Ive read stories where the bite must be done multiple times, like Bram Stoker's Dracula. And it seems in the last 20 years or so the virus school of thought has become apart of the myth. With our ever expanding knowledge of medicine it isn't very surprising. Now my take on GFD is that it's a virus that is transmitted with every bite. And Com has handled this really well in that he has made the transformation take on average 30 days from the time of the bite. Which answers that age old conundrum of why there arn't more vampires than there already are. If the Slag Hunters don't get you daylight will.
