Subject: Smile ??

Last pageant dd was at she got marks off for smile with every judge commenting needs to work on smile. Dd is 9 and doesn't like to do a great big smile because she says it makes her eyes squinty... would you prefer to see a regular smile, the big smile (that makes her eyes squinty) or the kinda fake looking smile? I've always told her to smile like she's having fun but.....

Thanks

[> That is what we do...my daughter is seven and complains that smiling hurts her face...so she smiles a big one,,,then when her back is to the judges she relaxes her face and then she switches the smiles around some. It has seemed to help her -- No name, 08:39:47 02/13/07 Tue [1]

[> [> Also, it is OK to close the mouth and re-smile when walking across the stage!! It is not normal for anyone of any age to hold a natural smile for that long! -- No name, 20:29:05 02/14/07 Wed [1]

[> [> [> As long as her face is visible to the judges, she has to hold the smile. The only time it is save to drop it is when she is facing the back of the stage. When she is walking from one X to the next, her head should be turned toward the judges and a smile on her face. -- Judge's opinion., 21:45:44 02/14/07 Wed [1]

[> [> [> [> [> [> [> What's not natural? I wasn't aware that there was a time limit on smiles. If you are using a genuine smile, it shouldn't hurt..it's the fake ones that hurt! If they get up there and do their stuff and get off in a minute or so, it shouldn't be a problem. -- Judge's opinion., 18:28:53 02/20/07 Tue [1]
