Subject: Score sheets

Just reading over questions about what judges want. I just wanted to suggest to you moms, when you register, ask the director if you can see a blank score sheet. As a state director, I could listen to the national director explain things and answer questions, but I would tell the moms "ok, but the score sheet specifically asks.." and out of three years, none of my state queens lost at nationals if they did what I said.

I really think you moms should worry more about what is on the score sheets prior to the pageants, instead of 3 opinions after a pageant. You may think that will help you at the next one, but it wont. It will be three different opinions.

What if at one pageant a judge says like I see on here "needs to be more relaxed" see if on the next score sheet the scoring actually says 0-10 on natural beauty. Then relax, but if the next pageant says "modeling ability" 0-10, then you need to hit those x's and model.

You would be surprised how studying a score sheet prior to the pageant would benefit you. You could ask a director "will it hurt my daughter to not have a glitzy dress like the others" the director will say no.

But suppose the scoring is 0-10 on beauty, 0-10 attire and 0-10 modeling.... looks like when they go to score the dress they will score the dress compared to the others.

Like it or not, judges will always compare to what is at a pageant. Judges rarely have time to stop and recompose and judge a child like they are suppose to. Take into account everything on that child on that stage at that moment.

That is what is bad about a line up, it is nothing but comparison.....
