Date Posted: 12:20:33 08/13/10 Fri Guys, I'm sending you question2 , that is just the begnning! 2) How does it differ from other common written media where one can also find scientific, specialized and discipline-specific information such as newspapers, newsletters and magazines? Refereed journals, magazines, newspapers and newsletters are all periodical that are published with a certain frequency, but there are several differences between those media. Those differences are noticeable by observing for example; the way they approach the subject in their contents, the purpose of that publication, for what audience is made and their physical layout. A refereed journal is created by specialists of a certain field, and addressed for a specific audience, like scholars, specialists and students of an academic environment. The main purpose of a Refereed journal is to report original research or experimentation and to communicate this information to the rest of the scholarly world. An article published in a refereed journal offers accurate information to a certain academic field, based on research. Magazines in other hand tend to appear more generic and are designed by anyone that can write about a certain subject, a magazine writer does not need to be exactly a specialist in a certain area of knowledge. The writers of magazines are usually journalists, poets, essayists, and people who have a certain interest in the topics being presented. Magazines are addressed for the general public and the opinion expressed in their articles tend to be more personal than accurate, contrasting the contents of a refereed journal. A newspaper is a publication that concentrates in informing what is happening in a certain area of the world. The articles contained in a newspaper often focus on political events, crimes, business, art and entertainment, society and sports. A newspaper, just like magazines, is usually written by journalists, writers and essayists. The main purpose of this type of publication is to inform. Newsletters are published to cover a specific subject that is common to subscribers. [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |
