There was nothing wrong with her scalp. The wig just pulled the hair out and it happens to many people who wear their hair too tight. Try distributing the weight by making smaller but more numerous pony tails. You might want a lighter wig...as the one you're using may be too heavy. Just purchased a maeve from Emerald keys and it seems very light and quite full. Get a magnifying glass and check the bald spot. If you can see hair follicles (helps if she's dark)..then the hair is growing back. Will take a while but it will be fine. If it seems to get worse, even without wig wearing...then have it medically checked. I promise you, this is more common than you could imagine, and it was the enthusiasm of the day caused it.....don't panic.
