It's like this, at first the changes are so subtle and gradual you'll never know anything is happening. You'll never know it's getting you until it has got you. Once the damage is done for the most part it can't be undone. So don't fool yourself each drag is causing some damage, perhaps not much, but it's still happening. Activity may help in that your starting point is much better than someone who isn't active. thus you've got further to fall before you hit the bottom. If you start checking with smokers that are 50+ years old I think you'll find that the overwelming majority of them will tell you yes it does and did effect them, they love smoking, and they whish they had never started.
