My top pick won!! I was so nervous that my favorite Hiroko would be overlooked because she wasn't a favorite among internet fans! But I knew from the first time I saw their group photo that it will be Hiroko VS Kana. I was so happy to wake up to the news last Thursday morning that Hiroko won MUJ. She's fierce, edgy & unique and I'm sure that with Ines' training she'd be a bigger threat in Vietnam. Omedetou Hiroko!

Subject: "THE AMERICAN GIRL" - The Amy Holbrook Nightmare Experience in Miss Tourism Queen International 2008

Author:
.
[Edit]

Date Posted: 21:56:25 04/06/08 Sun

THE AMERICAN GIRL - http://www.criticalbeauty.com/Journal_Apr_2008.html

THE AMERICAN GIRL : Amy Holbrook, left, the American representative to the Miss Tourism Queen International pageant taking place in China, decided to withdraw from the competition last Tuesday (April 1st) after the organizers discovered that she had been writing unfavorable comments about the pageant in her blog. Amy cites that the candidates were being subjected to 3 to 4 hours of sleep, to poor nutrition, to freezing temperatures without proper attire, to minimal security, and to poor medical care. She also wrote that one of the organizers, Jerome Too was rude to her and told her that vegetarian girls like herself would not be allowed to compete next year. The organizers even attempted to persuade her to take down her blog and also gave her the option to maintain her blog - but on the condition that she retract her statements. Holbrook decided to keep her blog as it is, citing freedom of expression.

Global Beauties, which covers the pageant, published a comment written by its correspondent Thiago Castro in which Castro denounces Amy and calls her statements "baseless." Castro also posted an "official statement" from MTQI organizers that was supposedly sent to all the national directors:

"We would like to inform you that Miss America's allegations and claims are not true and baseless. We'd like to say that this event is organized by the Henan Government and Henan TV station and their expectations are high for the contest as well as the contestants. They have spent millions in US$ in terms of round-trip fare for the candidates to come to their respective countries, international journalists as well their local journalists which include hotel stays and food and beverages. The China organizers have done their best to make all welcome both contestants and the 120 journalists from the international and national press that are currently with us. This event is high publicized. We provide sufficient and top grade meals for all contestants. We have big buffets spreads which consist of good food and in her case, plenty of vegetables, salads, fruits and soya based food. We do not feed bugs, dogs, cats and "Fear Factor" meals to our guests, journalists and contestants. There are sufficient security provide by both police and army. Last year alone, they activated 10,000 security personnel for the pageant. However sometimes there are occasional overzealous locals who tend to pull the contestants to snap photos with but usually this contestant who are being "harassed" will be ushered away by the chaperones. We have a trained doctor, paramedics and the ambulance are with us at all times during activities that the candidates are involved in. Should they be sick, they are immediately attended to. Other issues about phones cards of which this can be purchased at hotel concierge or gift stores. This will include feminine products as well. If the hotel do not have any available, they can approach the chaperones who will get the hotel to purchase for them on their behalf. Many of you have worked with us over the years and you know we are very strict and look after your girls well so we do not allow such things to happen. I have journalist here with us who can vouch that what was written in the blog mostly was a pack of lies. I will attach their comments in my next email for your judgment. Attached is also the Founder of Miss Tourism Queen International, Mr. Charlie See' wife who has given us her thoughts".

MISS TOURISM QUEEN INTERNATIONAL TOP GRADE MEALS: FUNGUS MIXED WITH WALL NUTS! YUM YUM!

Amy reposted the above statement in her blog and called it a "public relations nightmare." Notice that the statement insists that the pageant is highly publicized by "120 journalists from the international and national press." I just searched for "miss tourism queen," "miss tourism queen international," "miss tourism," and "mtqi" in the News section of Yahoo and Google and I didn't see any links to a coverage in English, Spanish, Portuguese or French - languages spoken by over a billion people. Global Beauties is the only pageant site that offers full coverage; the other sites could care less. Notice, too, how the writer admits to a lapse in security while referring to "occasional overzealous locals who tend to pull the contestants to snap photos." Sufficient security does not always translate to guaranteed security, as the contestants could get hurt especially if they were pulled aggressively. Imagine international athletes being treated like this when they come to China for the Summer 2008 Olympics. And why is there only one "trained doctor?" In her blog, Amy describes the substandard conditions in a local hospital to which she was taken after she had experienced stomach ache. It seems that there was not even one good doctor to examine a patient suffering from a simple stomach ache that, according to Amy, was caused "by lack of sleep and food poisoning."

MTQI WORLD CLASS HOSPITAL... THE MTQI STANDARD

What I'd like to know is who exactly wrote the so-called "official statement" from MTQI. Notice how the statement starts with the collective "We" and ends with a singular "I." Why weren't the names of the MTQI organizers Jerome Too and Alex Liu mentioned in the statement? And more importantly, why is the statement not even posted in the official MTQI website? The statement ends with a reference to an attachment - a letter supposedly written by Ann See, the widow of MTQI founder Charlie See. What exactly did Mrs. See say and why is her letter not posted on Global Beauties or MTQI websites?

After being held "hostage" in China for a couple of days, Amy was finally able to fly out of China and returned safely in Los Angeles last Saturday. Another contestant, Miss South Africa Alyssa Revelo, also withdrew from the pageant "due to medical reasons," according to Global Beauties, although one would suspect that she had also gotten ill due to food poisoning. Reliable sources informed me that nearly twenty candidates also wanted to leave, but that their passports were being held by the organizers. It would be interesting to see new stories come out once the pageant is over on April 10th, that is if all the girls (except the winner and runners-up) get to leave safely!

Amy Holbrook - Miss America (USA) leaving MTQI Pageant - read her blog! Cant stand the pageant organizers... http://www.amylynnholbrook.com

Shared Concerns.
I love participating in international beauty pageants but I have some important concerns about this competition. There are 115 girls here with little to no official organization. Each night, we are given a total of 4 to 5 hours to sleep each night and the girls are getting sick with no medical care. They finally took one of the poor girls to the hospital after 3 days with a serious ailment. Also, we have not had a proper meal in days and all most of us have been eating is bread, cakes, and rice, and french fries!! I rarely eat all of this but I have to eat something! I am not just being picky either. I don’t know too many people that are willing to try “Sea Cucumber in Blueberry Juice” or “Fermented Bean Skin”. We have no place to buy food during the day.

Some of the girls have asked for feminine products and we have been unable to buy them. This is totally unacceptable for me.

Lastly, the security does very little to protect us. They stand around while the Chinese tourists are aggressive with us, poking us and pulling us so we will come take a photo with them. Some of the girls have had their hair pulled by tourists when they tried to walk away! I know they are excited but I do not think it is right to let them do this.

A few of the organizers are constantly rude to us. They bang loudly on the door when the doorbell would do just fine. They are always screaming and stressed out. I realized they are trying to gather over 115 girls but it is unfair to us that they have not planned the events properly before we arrived.

Also, the evening gown competition we had a few nights ago was in 40 F (7 C) weather outside. Some of the girls were sick the next morning.

Yesterday, we were required to wear cocktail dresses in freezing weather while we hiked down steep terrain equivilant to the Grand Canyon.

We have visited many businesses to take group photos with the staff but we never actually get to experience the tourist sites which is very disappointing since China is such a beautiful country and we have only seen it from the bus rides.

We have no formal itinerary and no idea what the wear, where to go, or what city we a currently in. I have no idea where I am.

Most of the girls have been unable to call home because they cannot find a shop to buy an international phone card and no one seems to help the problem. After 5 days, someone finally bought the girls phone cards but they were for domestic use only and were not useful to call home. With all of the international news about China, it is very important for everyone’s parents to know that they are safe and well.

Thankfully, I have an iPhone that works internationally at all times. I have let some of the girls use my phone because they cannot call their families otherwise.

They took our passports for “safe keeping”. The real reason they take the passports is so we cannot decide to go home on our own.

I know that there have been a lot of changes since Mr. See passed away and it is possible that the pageant was changed to new hands but it seems like the organization as a whole is half hearted and that they do not truly care about us. They seemed to have thrown this pageant together in a matter of weeks because the planning has been awful. I feel bad for the few members of the staff that truly have their heart in assisting the girls and making this an enjoyable experience for everyone. There is a very special woman from Australia who has been extremely helpful to all of us and she is the only one I feel safe with.

All I am asking for is a good wholesome meal and 8 hours of sleep.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Hospital Of Horrors.
i ended up going to the hospital aFter walking around with a stomach ache all day. i had a mass exodus of junk from both ends. yum-yum. my roommate, miss aRmenia, stayed in all day today with the same stomach bug. there are about 15 girls that have ended up with the same illness.

when i told one of the staff that i wasn’t fEEling well, she gave me amway mint breath spray as medicine. wow…let me contain my enthusiasm.

the docTor came in and started poking me violently in the stomach asking if it hurt. of course it hurt!!! then she told both lucine and me that we had appendicitis. well, using my best judgement, i knew it was nearly impossible that we both had appendicitis but we were forced to go to the hospital anyway.

at the hospital, it was just more poking and chInese people screaming at each other. i was given a look of distain when they wanted to stick me with a catheter drip and i refused it, especially after viewing the very unsanitary conditions of the hospital. there was no way that i was about to let a small town chinese hospital stick a dirty needle in my arm for a simple stomach ache caused by lack of sleep and food poisoning.

i called my md and attorney, dr. douglas holBrook, and asked him what to do. he supported my decision to deny treatment for appendicitis and i had to sign a paper at the hospital to release myself from the treatment.

i had to explain thE situation but I think the photos of the hospital speak for themselves. i have posted photos of the hallway, patient’s toileT, and the sink to wash your hands after the bathroom. yikes.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Miss TQI, SURVIVOR EDITION!!!
Dear World,

It has come to my attention that some websites that are reporting about the excellent time the girls are having at this pageant. My question to them is “Are you here experiencing it with us?”…. Secondly, “Are you insane?”….. Since when did freezing to death in banana colored track suits, being fed marinated animal part delicacies, and sleeping for 3 to 4 hours each night constitute as fun???

Of course the girls are going to smile and say that they are having a great time. This IS a pageant and the overall goal should be to win. I leave many details out of my blogs for my own safety here in China but let me tell you that the conditions are less that stellar.

This pageant should be called “MISS TQI, SURVIVOR EDITION”. The girl who doesn’t die at the end, wins!

Let me also say that China is NOT the problem. I have visited the country before and I loved my time here. I LOVE CHINA and everything about its rich culture. This pageant reflects very poorly on China for the girls who have never visited before and that saddens me.

International pageants have been instrumental to my personal growth, thoughts, ideas, and goals. I have represented the USA in other international pageants and I loved every experience. For most of the girls, this is their first international experience and I’m afraid they are getting the wrong impression about what pageants are really about.

I hope this reaches the big man upstairs who was put in charge of financing this train wreck.

FOLLOW UP WRITE UP

I thought I was going to have quite the international incident this evening when the official for the Miss TQI pageant payed me a visit in my room and told me that I was in jepordy of being deported from China because of my free speech blog about the organizers in this pageant.

This woman from the pageant's press team told me that I needed to meet with the governer of this city (Kaifeng) and the chairman of this pageant to discuss what I had written in my blog (which I vow is all very true and realistic). I was called up to meet with them so they could decide if I would ever be allowed back into China after being honest about my pageant experience.

I went up to meet with these two men. There was one journalist and two translators. There was another woman there who spoke Chinese only and I don't know who she is.

When the chairman walked in, I stood up and greeted him in Chinese. The lady from the press made a heavy sigh of relief because she was worried that I would be deported right away. The chairman smiled and we got on with it.

We discussed the concerns I had written in my blog. The first thing they showed me was a letter sent around to all 120 of the national directors by an anonymous email address and no signature. In fact, they thought that I knew the person who sent it!! I have no idea who this person is but they certainly took my information and ran with it! I told them that I did not know who this email address belonged
to. It is really not shocking at all that some would send this around but it must be someone that is on the inside because they had EVERY NATIONAL DIRECTOR'S EMAIL ADDRESS!!!

The food and sleep issue were both addressed. I was told that the Chinese people did not know that the word "Vegetarian" meant "NO MEAT". They thought it meant a lot of vegetables in a dish with a little sprinkle of meat. They said that they wanted to accomodate me now.

I told them what Jerome Too said to me about not allowing Vegetarian girls into the competition next year. I told them that I was given my passport and he told me that I needed to make my own arrangements to get home.I told them how much he had offended me by his comments and
lack of care. They told me to ignore him because he is just rude like this to everyone.

They assured me that they would make the plans for me to go home if I truly was going to leave.

Then we talked about the temperature. They said that the cold weather was unexpected. I asked for blankets for the girls to have during our outdoor outings when track suits are required so we will not freeze outside anymore.

Lastly, they asked me to take down my blog. I didn't say anything. Then they told me that I was allowed to keep the blog up but that I needed to write a retraction statement NOW. I asked what they wanted me to type in the blog. They sad that I needed to say that "this was just a cultural understanding". hmm...

Then they told me that they wanted very much for me to stay and hoped that I could enjoy China.

Then they told me that if I went home, the other girls would all want to go home too. I was told very clearly that the organizers spent over $4 million on this pageant and that the Chairman would go to prison if I left the pageant and all the other girls started to leave.

He said this because it is true in China or anywhere if you get sponsors, they spend money, and then no spokes models show up.

I said that this is my 2nd time in China and I made the choice to return because "I love China and its rich culture". Xie xie.

Then I said that I would need to contact my national director and organizer Jeep Malone and that I would appreciate it if I could give them my decision in the morning.

BOOOOOO GLOBALBEAUTIES!!!! Henrique needs to return the money given to him to promote MTQI. He is part of the problem and a culprit.

Subject: Lesliana Pereira - Miss Angola 2008

Author:
Divulgação
[Edit]

Date Posted: 11:20:59 04/02/08 Wed

A palavra certa é atitude.

GODDESS FROM ANGOLA
2008 Angola´s beauty peagent, Lesliana Pereira, attitude and conscience get along together.

She is Lesliana Pereira, the first woman of the Zaire´s province to become the powerfull miss Angola of 2008. This happened exactly at the moment in which the peagents around the world are returning to the glamour and sophistication of the fifties. Thousands of young and beautiful women prove their beauty to be elected the most perfect woman of their country, and soon later will go to an universal Prize.
But what changed the perception of these peagents with the advent of technology, news in the cosmetic medicine, powerful cosmetic products, exclusive clothes? The right word is attitude. To be beautiful nowdays is not enough. The woman must have attitude, be smart and to use her power in behaf of something that reflects in the society in a positive way. And Leslie has it all. Nobody had ever he heard and angolanean woman with such a strength and atitude enough to break the hegemony of the women with white skin that have been winning the peagent Miss Universe since 2000. One year before, 1999, Mpule Kwelagobe, of Botswana, was elected as the last black woman to get the title.
Leslie, as she wants to be called by her friends, runs a very important social program of assistance to children in her country, which takes care of poor children. In the program, people who has more money and wants to work with philantrophy can guarantee more self esteem, and this way they can go back to their studies and get health ensurance and food.
As anyone can see, to be a Miss is almost to be and ambassadress of the noble causes. But when we talk about fashion, Leslie is very clear. ´I like to seek the influences of the various places, the culture of my country without forgetting the contemporaneity that is allowed to fashion now a days. My style begins in this perception and in my sensibility of being myself, no matter if my style is classic, modern or sexy.

Behind the beauties, nips and tucks: A look inside the beauty pageant universe

National Director for Miss Universe in Japan, Ines Ligron smiles in her studio. Hand-picked by Donald Trump, Ligron is possibly the world's leading trainer of beauty contestants. THE ASSOCIATED PRESS/Junji Kurokawa

TOKYO — Ines Ligron is the ultimate Miss Universe insider, and she doesn't believe much in secrets. One of her favourite stories is of a contestant who could have won but opted for last-minute cosmetic surgery, and thus was barely able to lift her arms when she went before the judges.

Even her own protege - current Miss Universe Riyo Mori - had work done.

"But just a little plumper in the lips," Ligron says.

Hand-picked by real estate billionaire Donald Trump, who took over the Miss Universe pageant a decade ago, Ligron is possibly the world's leading trainer of beauty contestants, having coached Mori to the crown last year - Japan's first since 1959 - and Kurara Chibana to the first runner-up slot the year before.

Getting on Ligron's list can mean overnight stardom.

Hundreds of millions of people around the world watch the annual contest to be held this June, in which women from 80 countries compete. Mori is currently hopping the globe between sessions on an MTV reality show, while Chibana has become a major celebrity in Japan, gracing magazine covers, co-hosting variety programs and endorsing dozens of products.

Ligron, a vivacious and successful businesswoman in her own right, is now whittling down a list of thousands of women vying to be her pick when the contest is held in Vietnam. Along with Japan, she will be training the South Korean entry. After that, she wants to coach in her native France.

"These girls are like babies when they come to me," Ligron said. "When I'm done, they have their college diplomas."

But winning the diamond-and-pearl crown comes with a price.

And often a slice.

It's time to take a walk.

In one of the last training sessions before Ligron names her final batch of contestants for the Miss Japan contest, whose winner represents Japan at Miss Universe, she takes about a dozen of her favourites out to a crowded crosswalk in a fashionable part of town.

The women strut back and forth across the street, then hold an impromptu fashion show - in their street clothes - on the stairs outside a large clothing store. Within minutes, a crowd of about 200 has gathered. A guard warns Ligron that he is concerned it might get out of hand.

Mission accomplished.

They laugh and clap, and head back to Ligron's office.

"With a fashion model on the catwalk, it's about the clothes," Ligron said. "With Miss Universe, it's all about the woman herself."

After passing a mass audition, the competitors go through sessions with Ligron on speaking and posture, fashion and makeup, presentation and attitude. It's often brutal - Ligron turned away one contestant, a high-fashion model, because the woman refused to gain weight.

"I don't advertise anorexia," she said, as the other girls looked on. "We don't want skinny rabbits."

Azusa Nishigaki is one of Ligron's disciples.

"I know some people don't respect beauty contests," she said. "But this one really appeals to me. It's not just about being cute and pretty. You have to be cool and smart. Miss Universe is the woman I want to be."

Ligron didn't think Miss Universe wanted her, however. Nishigaki, 23, failed the initial audition, but she pressed Ligron, and got another chance.

"I told her I could change," Nishigaki said. "And I did. I dyed my hair, I changed my clothes, my walk, my look. I think I have what it takes."

She is stunning.

There is just one thing.

She hates her ears.

Like steroids in sports, surgical enhancements are the dirty little secret of the beauty pageant world. But, unlike steroids, artificial enhancements in beauty competition aren't banned, or even particularly frowned upon.

Ligron said it is commonplace for contestants to remove a rib or two to make their waist smaller, to have breast augmentation, nose reshaping or eyebrow lifting. Complete reworking of the teeth is also de rigeuer.

"I guarantee you, of the five women on the stage, most of them had plastic surgery," she said of this year's Miss Universe final. Along with Mori, the other four finalists were from the United States, Venezuela, Brazil and South Korea.

In the United States, the subject caused a stir in 1983 when it was revealed that Miss America Debra Maffett had undergone surgery on her nose and breasts after previously losing the Miss Texas title. The Miss USA pageant has no limits on cosmetic surgery, although it has allowed contestants to use padding since 1990 to discourage breast implants.

Ligron makes all of her proteges sign a statement that they were not encouraged by her staff to undergo surgery of any kind. They must also inform her of any work they have had done in the past.

Ligron said one concern is health - going under the knife involves an element of risk, and organizers don't want to get sued for encouraging a botched nose job. But another concern is that, if a contestant hits it big, before-and-after photographs are bound to surface.

"If it's very obvious, we don't want girls who look like Michael Jackson," she said. "Imagine if a girl has an operation and something goes wrong. This would be a big scandal."

But it's complicated.

Ligron says that if, for example, an otherwise beautiful woman with floppy ears gets them fixed, on her own, without coaxing, well, "I'm so happy. Thanks, you know?"

"It's the girl's decision," she said with a shrug. "I cannot control that."

To many contestants, that's a green light.

Rita Lamah, the second runner-up in the 2003 Miss Lebanon contest, said she feels that contestants should be free to choose whether they opt for cosmetic surgery.

"Nowadays, through the plastic surgery, everyone can be beautiful, which, I believe, is definitely a great achievement," she said.

Ligron said surgery on the eyelids - to make the eyes appear bigger and more western - is especially common with Asian women. Enhancements are no guarantee of success, though.

The contestant who couldn't lift her arms - because she had just had her breasts enlarged - was vying for the Japan title last year. She was among the first that Ligron weeded out.

Nishigaki, meanwhile, is still undecided about whether she will keep her earlobes.

"But I think that getting them fixed could make me more confident," she said. "And that's what really counts."

When Riyo Mori walks into a room, she owns it.

Almost brash in her self-assurance, she savours her role, being in front of the camera, commanding attention. Physically, she was born - not sculpted - for the part. She towers over most of the men around her (she's five feet nine inches in her bare feet), and has a leggy, dancer's body.

Other than the lips, which are now back to normal, she has had no work done.

"I'm all natural," she said recently over a quick lunch in Ligron's apartment, where she and Chibana were doing a photo shoot for the cover of a book Ligron was working on. It was a brief stop - Mori was en route to a fashion show on the Great Wall of China.

Natural gifts notwithstanding, Mori admits she has gone through a transformation under Ligron's tutelage.

"I was just a girl from the countryside in Japan. I didn't know anything," Mori said. "I was watching her, everything she does. A woman. She's very cool. Like a live textbook."

Since Trump took over, the Miss Universe contest and its sisters - Miss USA and Miss Teenage USA - have gone through a major makeover as well.

They have been retooled from a showcase of male fantasies - Miss Universe started out as a bathing suit competition in California in 1952 - to an event that appeals mainly to women.

Contest organizers say that makes good business sense because many of the sponsors are looking to sell products to women. And the winners are more likely to endorse cosmetics or fill the pages of fashion magazines than they are to be shilling beer.

"Back in the day, it was all this, they were on a pedestal, they looked pretty with their pretty gowns and their pretty hair, but they really didn't speak. There was a lack of substance," said Roston Ogata, who works for the Trump organization as a talent director. "We are definitely trying to turn that around, to push the envelope a lot more."

Last year's Miss USA, Tara Conner, pushed the envelope a bit too far - Trump allowed her to keep her crown only after she agreed to go into rehab after admitting in a tearful news conference to heavy underage drinking.

So far, Mori's reign has been scandal-free. But she has also dropped the demure, girl-next-door shtick.

In apologizing for running off before finishing her salad, Mori explained that she was late for a semi-nude shoot - her second.

"I'm comfortable with it," she said. "It's for charity."

"In Japan, for lots of girls, it's not so good to have confidence. It's good to be conservative, very quiet," she said. "It's the culture in Japan, women shouldn't show off. Like a woman's always behind the man, women are more quiet, they don't say their opinion. But I have opinions, and I can talk.

"I'm a performer, I'm a dancer," she said. "Once I'm on the stage, 'poof,' I can change."

Magaly Febles and Ingrid Marie Rivera are both big time scammer, big time liars and as we say in Puerto Rico, "THEY ARE AN EMBARRASMENT FOR OUR COUNTRY." Here are some pictures of the current Miss Puerto Rico Universe, Ingrid Marie Rivera on vacation with Magaly Febles and her son a few months before the Miss Purto Rico Univrse 2008 competition. It comes to no surprise to many of us that these two would do anything to cause a controversy.

SCANDALE IN MISS WORLD!!! REALLY SHOCKING,THE RUMOR WAS TRUE
by Miss Universe 1000 B.C on 2007-12-05, 03:00:14 am
I remove all good things I said about Julia Morley. She's just a PIMP!!! I've lost all respect for her. All Miss World stuff is just a hypocrisy and show off. CHARITY MY FOOT! You hide your real face under charity you bitch! You're just a mother whore Julia!

I ADVISE ALL NATIONAL PAGEANT DIRECTORS TO BE VERY CAREFUL SENDING THEIR DELEGATES TO MISS WORLD, AND YOU MAY EVEN ASK YOUR LOCAL REPRESENTANT IF WHAT HAPPENED WAS NOT TRUE. THEY MAY BE EMBARASSED TO SAY WHAT HAPPENED BECAUSE OF THEIR REP*TATION, BUT THIS SHOULD BE STOPPED SO AS IT DOES NOT HAPPEN AGAIN IN THE FUTURE!

THE RUMOR WAS TRUE!!!

Once somebody came to say about the girls had to sit with old man etc...MY FRIEND WHO IS MISS OF MY COUNTRY CONFIRM ME THIS AND SORRY I CANNOT SAY FROM WHICH COUNTRY I AM NOR WHICH MISS IT IS, I HOPE YOU UNDERSTAND THIS.

LISTEN to my friend...

First we were told to dress up for dinner but we were'nt told where we were going or what we are gonna be doing.. only to find out when we got to the venue.. we were being showcased at a sponsor dinner.. whom the guests ARE ONLY MEN, old chinese men.. then after that they made us sit down at a table with 10 men, just me and my roomate, sitting separately from each other.. which we found very uncomfortable.. if that wasn,t enough.. we got HARASSED.. literally being touched in the wrong places, grabbing us, grabbing my ass.. they were so rude, ignorrant and uncivilized.. soo we went to our head of security to complain.. then they put me and some of the girls who felt uncomfortable to side because we were being harrased.. then we were supposed to leave BUT NOOOO.. Mrs. Julia Morley said we had to go back to our tables and sit back down.. which i totally refused to do.. only to find out that these men paid $400 dollars for us each so that we can sit down and let them violate us.. some of the girls were being cornered, their boobs being grabbed, one of the one of the girls got dragged on the floor as if we were dogs.. i felt like a prostitute.. SECURITY didn't even bother to help us.. Thanks to our chaperons, because they were the only ones who thought the situation was disgusting aside from us.. finally they decided that we can go back to the hotel after waiting for about 2hours of arguing if we could leave.. when were on the bus home.. the son of the owner comes up and says they apologize and didn't know that was going to happen.. and that we were going to the beach tomorrow to have fun as if we were upset kids, if given candy we'll be happy again.. i thought it was completely bullshit and so did some of the other girls so we decided to have a talk with the organization about this fiasco.. a group of us went up to the office to discuss the issue, stressing on our points and telling them how we felt.. the ORGANIZATION couldn't give us a perfect explanation as to what happend.. they were un sincere and plastic.. because clearly it was impossible for them not to know what it really was, they were putting us into.. All for the money.. they had to put us in an enviroment which made us feel inferior of who we are.. they couldn't explain it because for 1. they didn't tell us what the occasion was about, because if they did i would have refused to go. 2. they had sitting arrangements 2 girls per table sitting separately to 10 men. 3. Not enough security to protect us. 4. we were sold to our sponsors for $400 each. 5. one of the girls got dragged on the floor as if we were dogs. 6. Completely harassed and violated as a person and as women. AND they say "MISS WORLD" is all about "respect for women, femininity, equality" bullshit if they had us go through that.. with that said, i dont care about winning the crown anymore if it means losing my respect as a woman and as person.. what dissapoints me most.. is most of the girls didn't complain to the office even if they were violated all because they want to win that stupid crown.. i believe they have eaten up they're pride and lost respect in themselves all because they were scared.. i made the decision to speak up.. i just think that people should know what happend to us because clearly it is NOT RIGHT..

THE NEW MISS WORLD is Zhang Zilin, 23, of the People's Republic of China, who was crowned in her own country last Saturday night in Sanya's Beauty Crown Theatre. Zilin is a Beijing secretary who was born in the northern industrial city of Shijiazhuang. The first runner-up is Micaela Reis, 18, of Angola and the second runner-up is Carolina Moran of Mexico. The other two finalists are Annie Oliv of Sweden and Valene Maharaj. Zhang is the first participant from the Far East to have won the coveted title; she's also the first winner to come from a country led by a communist party. Over 100 countries competed in this year's pageant which was held in Sanya for the fourth time. Organizers said was watched by a global television audience of two billion people. This year's competition took place on World AIDS Day, as organizers said they wanted to use the pageant to help raise awareness about the ongoing fight against the disease.

A blog by Zhang on the Web portal Sina.com had over 1 million hits as of Sunday, with many fans posting their congratulations. "You've brought honor to our country! We're all happy for you! We're proud for China!" wrote a fan named "Tango." Zhang exclaimed, "I'm the first Chinese to win the title and more importantly I won in my own country,” said Zhang, resplendent in a sparkling, pale pink dress as she addressed the media on her first full day on the job as Miss World 2007.

There were quite a few surprises. Ada Aimee de la Cruz, of the Dominican Republic, who had been the leading choice of British bookmakers, only made it as a semi-finalist. There was also a tie between Valeska Saab of Ecuador and Ka Yi Cheung of Hong Kong China - both women were awarded the Beauty With the Purpose award and automatically advanced to the semifinals. Jurgita Jurkuté of Lithuania, a heavy favorite, failed to crack the finals. It was reported that Jurkuté had been seen by MWO Chairperson Julia Morley dancing with a man, which killed her winning chances. She also informed the MWO staff that she had accepted an offer to host her own TV show in her country. The remaining semifinalists were the representatives from the United States, Ghana, Austria, Grenada, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Malaysia and Venezuela.

• WORLDLY COMMENTS : I saw bits and pieces of the live telecast of Miss World on a Vietnamese online channel, but the streaming was so bad that I was getting impatient. Then I was chatting with a friend via MSN Messenger who gave a me a link to a Pakistani TV site that offered a continuous and smooth broadcast. The pageant was not shown live on U.S. television, and it will probably take another week or two before the delayed broadcast is shown on cable, just like last year and the year before. The stage looked phenomenal from a distance, the hosts were substantially good, and the performers were passable, but the overall pace of the show was slow and anti-climactic.

Now let's get to the nitty-gritty about the results. China won for several factors. First, she possesses the traits that MWO is looking for - grace, elegance, beauty, sweetness, and humility. MWO will never choose a girl who has a strong personality, who complains or who will give them trouble; China seems to be a girl who's good in following orders; after all, she's a secretary! Second, it is not coincidental that her winning is a prelude to a much bigger international event - the 2008 Summer Olympics - that will take place in Beijing. Morley can make millions by peddling Zhang to the Olympic sponsors; I can see her carrying PRC's flag as she leads the Chinese team into the stadium. This is no different from when Amelia Vega won Miss Universe in 2003 and appeared three months later in the Pan American Games held in her home country, the Dominican Republic. Third, China's winning is MWO's way of thanking the Chinese for having spent millions of dollars in hosting the pageant for four years.

And what about the other girls who placed? Angola made it - not because of her beauty - but because MWO needs a mouthpiece in Africa to promote HIV/AIDS awareness. This is not surprising, since her bio states that "she is an ambassador of hope for people whose lives have been affected by HIV." When Sweden was called as a finalist, you could hear a pin drop in the theater. One can only assume that Sweden is Morley's "pet" this year, since she hardly registered as one of the favorites. Puerto Rico's inclusion did not have anything to do with merit as much as it had to do with favoritism, thanks to Wilnelia Merced, the only Miss World so far from Puerto Rico, who happens to be one of Morley's good friends and business associates. I don't know about you, but the more outstanding girls this year (Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Venezuela, Malaysia, Grenada) were shut out in favor of less beautiful girls who made the top 5.

Yes, dear readers, the only way your girl can advance in Miss World is through connections, either with Julia Morley herself, or with past titleholders who have become Julia's good friends. It sounds corrupt, but that's reality. It's all about getting to know the right people and sucking up to them if necessary
