Subject: McCain and Huckabee vie for bigot's endorsement

McCain wins. Or did he lose?

http://www.catholicleague.org/release.php?id=1394

Who the heck are we going to vote for? Huckabee, a former Baptist minister, and McCain both think that an endorsement from this clown is a much desired thing.

Thumbs down to the 2 of them.

That leave Hillary or Obama?!

Barb, I'm moving back. :)

Huckabee didn't get the nod from Hagee, but he sure tried harder than McCain.

http://www.catholicnewsagency.com/new.php?n=11335

You have to wonder why Hagee chose to endorse McCain, who is much more liberal than Huckabee. Maybe it's professional jealousy, since Huckabee was a minister???

Let's be honest. McCain offered Hagee a better deal. :)

I'm a conservative, yet I don't like this anti-Catholic rhetoric which, sadly, is a bit too common among Prot'nts. Then again, Joan, you want to pretend that the Inquistion was no big deal...that I'm anti-Catholic for asserting that the Borja Popes, the Crusades and the abuse scandals of recent yrs occurred. You often talk abt heresy, ex-communication and other negative things...

So I don't see much of a diff'ce btwn you and this so-called preacher. From my point of view, you and him share a lot of things in common, but differ only slightly in substance.

Instead, we should rejoice in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and share his Word with believer and non-believer alike and focus on the views we have in common...not try to change history or engage in a war of words that will only divide us.

And I'd be delighted if you moved to Canada. A lot of you NE'ers are Euro and Canadian wannabees anyways. LoL, sorry couldnt resist that.

Take care, God Bless,

Phil from AZ

Will you ever change. :)

I don't say that the InquisitionS were "no big deal". Those are your words.

What I do say is that they weren't what people think they were. People believe that millions of people were killed in the inquisitionS. Not true. What I stand against is the anti-Catholic rhetoric regarding the inquisitions.

Apparently it's the non-Catholics who believe that the inquisitions as they really were, were "no big deal". Why else lie to make them look worse than they were? :)

All I ask is that if someone is going to talk about the inquisitions, they tell the truth.

your ignorance about the iquisitionS and your lack of education compared to the authors I suggested, are you?

Did you ever read the book I suggested? If not, why are you going back to your original stance on the iquisitionS when you don't know anything about them?

Phil, you presented yourself as a learned scholar on the topic.

If you don't have a dictionary, spurious means lacking authenticity or validity in essence or origin; not genuine; false.

Pointing out your comparitive lack of knowledge and education wasn't a spurious comment.

Perhaps your comparison to the "good doctor" was.

Ego. :)

I'm still stuck w/ McCain, too. This recent political tactic is disgusting, but would having Hillary or Obama in the Whitehouse be better?

I'd like to know what deal McCain made w/ Hagee. Maybe it was just that Hagee knows that Huckabee isn't going to get the nomination, so he's going for the surer thing.

What a disgusting mess.

We need a decent (in the ability/political views sense) Catholic candidate to run next time around.

Would any of the candidates accept a nomination from an anti-semitic Christians preacher?! Yet this is accepted, and those who call him on it are treated as if they're being too picky?!

Why is pointing out anti-Catholicism seen as a bad thing? We're actually accused of exaggerating, as if it doesn't exist. And yet here it is in one of the most in-your-face examples in recent years. A presidential front-runner feels that it's perfectly OK to accept a nomination from an anti-Catholic bigot.

Do I *really* have to vote for McCain?

I might have to do a write-in. I joked about writing in Condie's name, but I just might do it.

Do they even have write-ins in primaries?

Joan

I actually saw that piece where the 'preacher' denounced Catholicism. It was truly disgusting and McCain should denounce him immediately for saying it. It seems odd that both McCain and Huckabee would seek this man's endorsement. If I were running for ofc, I'd stay as far away from him as I could.

I spt McCain for other reasons. He should make a sound Cmdr-in-Cf and has a much better grasp of For'n Policy than Obama and Hil'ry in this dangerous world that we live in. Those 2 Dems are poor candidates in my view.

Still, it seems strange that we cant find better candidates for the Pres'cy out of 300mil people. I'm with you on Condi tho. While I dont think a write-in vote is the answer, I wish she would've run. I dont think anyone could've touched her. She's very articulate on the issues and would pro'bly be a better candidate than any of the above.

Take care, God Bless,

Phil from AZ

Who'd a thunk it. lol

I like McCain better than the rest, but his insistence on keeping Hagee's endrosement makes me question his character.

Most complain that the election process is too long. I strongly disagree. With a long campaign season, we get to see who these people really are. It's hard to be phoney for months on end. They eventually show something of their true selves. McCain looks worse than the rest right now, as far as character goes, and I started out having more respect for him than for the others. McCain is making a very big mistake.

You may be well meaning in your intent to share the word of Jesus with non believers, but non believers such as myself take offense to that idea. I do not expect you to understand because you are just too bull-headed and arrogant to comprehend that not everyone in this world believes as you think they ought to believe. You are an exceedingly closed minded person to any reasoning but your own.

Furthermore, this is a Catholic forum and if you choose not to participate then that would be fine with me. Or are you just trying to curry favor with the usual suspects again? What else is new?

So are you "bigoted" as well as arrogant then? Do you wish me not to be here so you can be certain that your belief system is not questioned? I do not need to curry favour with those I like and respect. I like and respect Joan alot, for who and what she is...and for what she believes. Let's get serious here. You would not wish me to spew my belief system to you. I was merely saying that for you to do so to me, is also not welcomed. You addressed the issue about sharing the word of Jesus with non believers and I have the right to take my stand on it.

I accept the Old Testament as part of the Bible. Thus, its illogical to be bigoted against my own religion. Perhaps its you who've gone out of your way, Barb, to show offense. That's typical. Now c'mon, this is a Catholic forum and if you wanna discuss the Old Testament, that would be OK with me. Meanwhile, the anti-Phil hysteria seems to have gripped you again, as it often does with the usual suspects of the well-passed-it Waltons Gang.

"Yes, we are well passed...the nonsense and the baloney,"

It's funny that you bring this up today, because I was just thinking that at church today. I don't know why I was, but there it is. :)

I keep thinking that if I knew then...

The more you learn, the more you realize you don't know.

Poor Bob. He was 43 when we got married, and I was 23. How did he stand it!! Now that I'm 45, I can't imagine having to deal with a 23 yr-old spouse. I can't tell you how many stupid arguments we had over things that I thought were important. It was so incredibly stupid. It's a wonder Bob didn't walk away. lol

Well, live and learn.

What will I be thinking when I'm Bob's age (65)? I'll probably be appalled at how immature and stupid I was at 45. :)

Some people are born with old wisdom and common sense I think, and some never become wise and gain common sense. I think you underestimate yourself. You have probably always been alot more mature and alot less stupid than you give yourself credit for! Bob knew a good thing then and he knows a good thing now...and that will forever be. :-)

Phil, it isn't anti-Phil hysteria. Your comments are frequently out of line.

This forum is titled Catholic Friends. That means that it's a forum to discuss Catholic beliefs without fear of being blasted. The forum was started so we could talk about things that always cause a fight on Brenda's forum.

If I had started the McCain/Huckabee topic on Brenda's, I'm sure that most who responded there would have defended McCain, Huckabee, *and* Hagee for holding perfectly correct views on the Catholic Church. So we have this forum to air our views. It's open to everyone who can come here and discuss these things without being insulting to anyone.

I know that it's some churches' mission to convert others. And the Catholic Church certainly doesn't hide its faith. But this isn't the place to look for converts. I don't think it's fair to blindside people with a relgion sales pitch. I think it's better to spread the word only when asked, and then only answer the question. I don't want to be hassled about religion, so I respect everyone elses right to choose their own religion.

Not that I don't like a good discussion about differing beliefs. :)

But I dont think there would be many folks from Brenda's that defend what Hagee said, if they saw the clip. I think we can give 'em a lil' more credit than that. But I do ack that there may be a few who spt what that 'preacher' said.

Barb, I honor and respect your belief and know you have a vast knowledge of your heritage. I just want to throw this in, even though you know there are always exceptions to rules, just as a reminder...a TRUE Christian will show love. Not EVERYONE who calls themselves that, are one. :) You catch my drift.

We Christians wish not to be judged by an evil seed that spews negative rude remarks. Anyone can say "God bless" at the end of any sentence, but cursing and blessing can not live in the same "house" according to the old and new testament. Some just throw those words around carelessly. But you know that already my friend. :)

It was Christ that said we would recognize Christians by their "fruits" of the spirit. Which believe me does not include rude, negative words. Otherwise anyone can call themselves a Christian, regardless of their life, thoughts or deeds and then sum it all up by saying "God bless". Christ said to beware of those wolves in sheep clothing. ;)

Apparently he's very popular with evangelicals, so McCain is happy to have his endorsement. They're saying that evangelicals are much less likely to just vote for any Republican. They're looking at more issues than just the usual (abortion, stem cells, etc). So why is McCain so happy to have this endorsement? His voting record is very similar to Hillary's on many issues that most people look at.

So what gives?

I might have to cast a vote for a 3rd party candidate this year. Wasted vote. But McCain doesn't deserve a single Catholic vote, imo. He doesn't deserve a single Christian vote, but I know a lot of Christians think that anti-Catholicism is perfectly OK, so expect McCain will get plenty of votes from the Bible belt.

Joan
