I think it's great that a first-time contestant is our new Miss Wisconsin. She's a lovely girl who certainly epitomizes the girl-next-door image that one often associates with Miss America. However, the one thing that sticks in my mind from this past weekend is how bizzare some of the final placements were. Once again the 1st runner-up curse occurred with Chelsey W. not even advancing to Top 5. Nor did Tori Bogren after placing 3rd runner-up last year. I also thought for sure that Audra Fuchsel would advance to the next level. Her talent was amazing. To be honest, with the exception of Raquel Bruenning, my Top 5 was the exact opposite of what the judges selected. Obviously this was a judge's panel that put a high emphasis on interview -- something that the rest of us were not privy to. But one has to wonder how much influence that had on the rest of their scoring. I was not impressed with either piano performance, and although both Rosalie and Sarah are beautiful dancers, their talent scores should have been lower than some of the other contestants in that Top 11. And I believe talent is 30% of the score on the final night of judging. Tori Bogren was amazing, as was Mary O'Connell. Obviously, composite scores must of been what did most of these stellar talents in, because let's face it all of those Top 11 were pretty much equal in the areas of gown and swimsuit. I would love to have seen Rosalie's interview. If she knocked it out of the park, than yes, she was very deserving of the title. But to an audience member that only gets to see the on-stage competitions, how this all turned out was a bit confusing.
