Subject: Best Head Shots
Author: JMO [ Edit \| View ]	Date Posted: 17:37:59 04/18/15 Sat All of the ladies' official photos are good, but these are my favorites: Seven Rivers (gorgeous), Coulee Region, Southern WI, Heart of the Valley, Eastern Valley, Fox River Valley, West Allis, and New Berlin. La Crosse and Madison look too much like portraits -- not natural looking. And I'd wish the photographers would do away with any shots where you see hands in the photo. It should be a head shot. The long extensions on River City also do not look natural. And what's up with Fond du lac and the huge earrings that she is always wearing. The focus should be on her face, not her earrings.

Who else competed in this pageant? There are also no photos or any information about the results of this pageant on the Miss WI website or facebook page. As I recall, this happened last year, too. This pageant certainly isn't very well publicized.

Two contestants I am unfamiliar with (Kristina Elles and Easton Smiskey) are quite beautiful. I would be okay with Tara Pizer not taking this title. I don't understand why locals feel the need to announce the individual winners in each category, it really accentuates how flawed the final balloting can be. If the judges wanted Kiersten for Miss Kenosha, fine, but if the judges scored Mary 1st in 3 of the 5 categories, in all reality, she should have been the winner -- especially if she outscored Kiersten in interview. If a local feels the need to announce the overall talent and interview winner (after the pageant is over!) again, fine. But when they announce all these category winners, you end up with this possible scenario happening -- one that makes no sense. (NT) -- No name, 23:05:48 01/11/15 Sun I might also add that I have always disliked that Miss WI announces the overall evening gown winner prior to the final coronation. It is very generous of Ron and Joe to have donated that scholarship all these years, but I've always thought the scoring in that category is a direct reflection of who the judges are liking and wanting to be Miss WI. Thank the lord that they changed that practice this past year, because if Raeanna had been announced the overall evening gown winner prior to her coronation, (and I might add I don't think she was deserving of that) there would have been 0 suspense as to who the new Miss WI was. Announcement of preliminary talent and swimsuit awards is fine (that's the way it's always been) but with the final ballot I just think it's very risky when you announce overall awards in other categories. It must of all come down to final ballot and the judges went with their preference in the end. Plus, it didn't have to be a unanimous decision. What if Kiersten had also won interview? What kind of suspense would that have been in the end. As I said, it's all fine and good that the judges went with Kiersten if they felt she was the best choice, but then don't announce all of those category awards, because they are suppose to be the elements that help decide the winner. As I said, it makes no sense that Mary placed 1st in interview, gown and swimsuit and still placed as 1st runner-up. Leave the audience in the dark with who scored highest in each category rather than confuse them with the way the final ballot plays out. So announcing the awards prior to crowning would not have ruined the suspense, apparently. As for confusing the audience, perhaps they need to educate themselves on how things like this can happen. It's a very easy explanation. Mary may have won Gown, Swimsuit and Interview, but clearly Kiersten had to have extremely high scores in them as well. Kiersten, however, probably had a MUCH higher score in talent, pulling her total score higher than Mary's. Hypothetically if they had gotten these scores, this could easily happen: Mary - Gown 10, Swimsuit 10, Interview 10, Talent 4 - Kiersten - Gown 9, Swimsuit 9, Interview 9, Talent 10 - Kiersten only wins talent but still has the highest score. She gives up her title mid-March, so could compete in Harbor Cities or Fox River Valley. No date set for that pageant yet. Madeline Anderson has that Miss America look and is the complete package. I see her coming back, too. Tori Bogren gives up her Kenosha title in early January. She also made a strong showing last year. I could see her competing in Southern (maybe taking the same route Laura did) or one of the other open pageants early next year. I think all three of these girls have a great shot to be the next Miss WI. Or who knows, perhaps a newbie yet to be crowned will win the title. OP: I will start. My favorite has been Kristina Smaby, because she is a true testament that persistence pays off. She competed for four years, and the first three never made it any further than Top 10. It took a lot of courage for her to come back for the fourth time knowing that she might never realize her dream. She has been a tremendous inspiration and role model for so many young girls, and I think that's a big part of what this program is about. And also, in all my years of attending the state pageant, I have never heard such a positive reaction from the crowd then when she was named Miss Wisconsin. It was just such an awesome moment, not only for her, but for everyone in attendance that had followed her journey over the years. (NT) -- No name, 23:11:57 11/06/14 Thu State finally let Kristina win because her years of ticket sales were to be over that last time, and they could get her ticket sales again when she came back to give up her title the following year if they had her win. That girl was responsible for a large part of the audience for 4 years. Of course the audience went nuts when she won, they were all hers. Was she a great Miss Wisconsin? Yes, I agree that she was. Subject: Raeanna certainly doesn't have much of a following from the contestants she competed with at Miss WI. I saw none of them in the group photo at her send-off party, and I saw no photos of any of them in attendance at Miss America. Going into the state competition last year, she had to have known that she had a good chance of winning again. There certainly was no need to be unfriendly or catty with any of the contestants she was competing with. In the couple times I have spoken to her, she was always very cordial and friendly. What is up with this? Shouldn't we be supporting our Miss WI -- and especially the girls that will be competing for local titles again in aspiration of taking over as her successor come June.

April performed a vocal selection, "Pie Jesu" in talent competition; and Hannah performed a lyrical dance to "Rough Cut." I felt that Raeanna was the clear winner on Wednesday night, with Holmen, HOW, and Oshkosh all coming in a close second. What we should appreciate about our state pageant, is that the contestants for the most part come to this competiton well-prepared and their talents are exceptional. That is not the case if you've been watching some of these other pageants like Texas for instance. I don't see her going past top 10, but she definitely should make the initial cut again this year. Seven Rivers -- Was surprised with her swimsuit win. She looked good, but I thought others in her group were better. Could be a sign the judges really liked her in interview. Green Bay Area -- Karlee has amazing stage presence, and it must have been difficult to follow Harbor Cities last night. However, she definitely held her own in talent. I'm guessing with her journalism background, she also had a stellar interview. West Allis -- Hoping that the judges will be forgiving with her unfortunate talent performance on Thursday -- it may have cost her a spot in the top ten. However, her swimsuit win was very deserving, plus I think she's one of the most beautiful women in the pageant. Onalaska -- Again, IMO, one of the three best talents from last night. Audra also has a great interview. I expect a top ten placement for her. Madison -- I thought Raeanna could have also won swimsuit last night. She seems to be doing everything right. Also gave a very insightful answer to her on-stage question. I wish she would have kept her red gown from Madison for her state competition. Top 5 for sure -- I think she's going to win it all again. Heart of Wisconsin -- Think I enjoyed her lyrical dance even better than last year's performance. Has such a classic Miss WI/ Miss America look. Think she's also a definite shoe-in for top 5. Kenosha -- Seems solid across the board. I don't see a real spark from her like I do some of the other contestants, but I think she's done well enough to make top 10. Heart of the Valley -- Solid talent performance and she speaks well. Think that translates to a good interview, too. Swimsuit and evening gown seem to be her weak categories. Someone needs to tell her not to hold her hand on her hip during her entire swimsuit presentation. Hoping she makes top 10, but don't see her advancing past that. Belle City -- Tara should have no problems making top 10 again this year. Scored her the highest in swimsuit last night, followed by WI Rapids, Madison, and FRV. Her evening gown was a little outside of the box, but stunning on her. She definitely has the look of a Miss WI. Bubbles: St. Francis -- Absolutely loved her talent, but her on-stage question last night was very weak. Thought she was a bit better than average in the other categories. La Crosse -- She has come a long way since winning her local. Awesome swimsuit presentation -- thought it was between her and West Allis on Wednesday. Oshkosh -- Absolutely loved her talent, but I fear her interview didn't have the depth of the other veteran contestants. Holmen and Onalaska should be the winners of the preliminary rookie talent awards.

I think that the top spot can go to any of these fine young women at this point. They are all deserving and with a clean slate on Saturday in finals, it will be interesting. These are my thoughts for top 5:

Madeline � kudos in swimsuit and onstage question. Talent wasn�t as far up to par as I was expecting.
Tori � solid across the board. Gorgeous gown, looked great in swimsuit and talent was good. Nice to see a fresh face!
Raeanna � her swimsuit was up there, talent is good (yet maybe doesn�t bring excitement to an audience anymore) her onstage question was spot on, did not care for her new gown.
Chelsey � looked great in swimsuit, her gown was not my favorite but she carried it well, talent hurt her obviously (and lack of recovery probably hurt even more), but I�m guessing she will still get into the top.
Christa � I think she will sneak in the top 5. Her talent on piano was good (even though I may not agree with the �creepy� song choice), her swimsuit and evening gown were also �good�.
