Actually, it boils down pretty simply. If you pray a form of the sinners prayer, which incorporates your belief that he is the son of God and that he died for your sins and ask Him to be your savior, salvation is yours. The rest of the stuff, although considered important, isn't necessary to provide salvation. This is why different denominations, who interpret the word differently, are still saved.
