there was a man who taught his german shepherd by the name of adolf to raise the right paw on the command "adolf, make heil!". this made people watching crack up with laughter. as he did it in a public bar somebody called the police who sacked the man. the dog owner got legally fined for "displaying national socialist symbols in public". happened a year ago.

then there was this unemployed man at a standoff at the social welfare office. he was about to lose his apartment for not being able to pay the bills. natural gas heating, water and electricity had been shut off already. he freaked out when an official told him that the state would not pay his bills. he took the official hostage and put a knife to his throat. the cops got him and he was sent to the booby hatch. after the news spread, somebody wrote on a local internet forum for unemployed people that he could understand a desperate man trying to kill an official. now the forum administrator is pressurized by the authorities by threats of incarceration to hand out the writer's i.p. so that the writer can legally be sued for "approval of a crime" which will bring him to jail. happened a month ago.

there was this guy, a rightwinger, no doubt, who wore a tee shirt in public, displaying the phrase "i do not believe that there were jews gassed in concentration camps".
(just for the records: needless to say that his beliefs are factually and verifiably wrong but there are people who believe the earth is less than 6,000 years old, too.)
instead of wearing the shirt he would have caused the same effect just by saying this in public or writing it in a book. he got legally jailed for "denial of the holocaust". happened several times over the past years, different persons, same result always.

freedom of speech, my ass... orwell called this "thought crime". guess in which country this happened?
