I feel the same way when called upon to support certain people's freedom of religion, as well. It's said that freedom of speech does not include shouting "Fire!" in a crowded public venue, but we must be very careful where we draw the line at what we allow to be said.

You are right, the existing laws against spreading racial or other hatred should be adequate to the task of prosecuting people who advocate attacks on specific groups in society. I think that although we may have to allow some people to speak, we can deny them our audience, and perhaps if the protesters stay home, they will deny them their thirty second news clip, too.

If that crazy religious woman in the US had simply been ignored by the media, she would then have got all the attention she deserved, instead of being given a world-wide audience for her POV.

We can still speak out in favour of our views, and we should. If we prevent others from doing so, we may find we are next.

It's a difficult quandary.
