As are most capitalists. I'd still rather have elected politicians than the other options... like say a "divinely appointed ruler".

The ones who don't and wouldn't never get voted in because most people are afraid of radical changes to any aspect of their lives. Politicians say what people want to hear so they get voted in - unfortunately in America they secure votes by listening to corporations and not people.

Again, so are capitalists and I don't think any of your points are reason to say politics are less relevant than old religious texts, but they aren't exactly comparable either. Politics deals with societal needs of people (and as ugly as those may be, I think they reflect the society quite succinctly) whereas old religious texts reflect people's spiritual needs.

Lots of books contain nuggets of wisdom and life lessons WITHOUT all the cumbersome passages advocating death and blind obedience to a vengeful god. Why doesn't someone sum up all the positive things the bible has to say into a new book and scrap the rest of the bullshit? Frankly, I think Buddhism contains better morals anyways. Imagine if peaceful religions ran the world.
