Excellent! Especially as you will get paid for it. I have personally experienced the 'acting head of dept' whereby I didnt get any extra money, or time or anything, just all the extra work, but then that was in a school run by a complete amoral shit. At the end of the first year he even got me to do another year unpaid, unrecognised before finally giving me the actual promotion.
As the official Head of Department was still there I never felt free to make decisions of my own,especially to change anything he had set up or done. Big mistake. I learnt afterwards the benefit of saying, 'If Im going to be judged, criticised or condemned on my decisions and actions, then Im going to make sure that I do things my way, then at least Im getting a fair hearing.' Trying to second guess what someone else might want or not want was a really bad idea.
