Yeah, we see that here. When I was a child, 'nigger' was the word by which we commonly referred to black people. I didn't realize it was perjorative. I am sure I heard teachers use it in school, and it had been used in literature and schoolyard rhymes. Then 'negro' became the acceptable time for a while, then 'african-american (Canadian)' and now I think the acceptable term is 'black.' That's the one I use at present, anyway.

And now black people refer to themselves as 'niggers' but white people can't (and IMHO shouldn't want to.) I find the term unacceptable no matter who is using it. There is something wrong, to me, when a black person uses the term, as if self-abasement is somehow OK. It makes me uneasy.
