Art truly ought to exist for its own sake, imo, although, sadly, our modern culture tends to regard it as a popularity contest. Its value is in its own beauty (even though some art is not seen as beautiful to all people), not in a price that someone assigns. Art, in all its forms, is not a commodity to be traded; it is the expression of real truth. (Keats: "Beauty is truth, truth beauty," that is all ye know on earth, and all ye need to know.')
