You've said before that you NEED to write, that this form of expression is necessary for your well being. I don't know that there is anything I feel that passionate about that would be an essential to my sanity. I need fresh air, space, wilderness, but I don't think that's the same thing. I can try to imagine the dark places you must visit with your writing, carefully chosing your words to describe Pamela's rape, or the violence that erupted during the Derry march, but I don't know how successful I'd be. Though it has a price, I think without being able to express yourself through writing, you would be in an even darker place, Writing, meaningful writing, is part of you and is what makes your books so special. -- Cindy's Cottage

Oh absolutely, Denise. I think I'd be much worse off without the writing. I really think of this as just part of the cyclical nature of creativity. For instance in the spring I'm more productive than any other time of year, my writing output will sometimes triple- I'm sure it's my creative part responding to the change in weather. - No, no second guessing yourself, Cindy. Sometimes being extreme is precisely what you must do. It's your job to write from your heart, not to tell us what you think we want to hear, or to limit yourself to stuff you feel we can handle. Your world is different from ours, and I suppose it takes a lot of effort on your part to lift us into the fictional world you have created. But truth must be revealed, and so your art must be produced, even at the risk of being viewed as extreme. There's a lot of pulp on the shelves out there, all safe and contrived.     - You know, I didn't take that piece as being extreme at all. I just thought - that's Cindy - she needs to feel this way to be the writer and person she is.       - Thanks for that, Denise, I appreciate being understood. I think it was one of those pieces that just comes from a place of total honesty, and therefore it kind of left me feeling vulnerable. Which is really what art is about anyway, it's just not always a comfortable feeling- you know, it's the whole, 'did I just post in haste and am about to repent at leisure?' feeling.
