Subject: Love's idea of what an "IRA leader" should be capable and willing to do reminds me of a recent quote from an actor (his name escapes me) who was in the movie "50 Dead Men Walking" about an IRA turncoat who spied for the British Army during the Troubles. The actor said the IRA men whom he met with and who advised them on the film were some of the nicest people he'd ever met. We tend to have this image of these men as cold-blooded, amoral killers, but they did what they did for a reason. Some, I'm sure, are more extreme and amoral than others, but many I suspect were like Casey -- good men fighting for the freedom and rights of their families, friends and country.

  • Casey's got no beef with Love's enemies. That makes a big difference. In Ireland, Casey's fight was against a very clear-cut enemy that had been oppressing his people for centuries. It would be really hard to be a thug in someone else's war. I despise Love and his level of authority. Another one of your many intriguing characters, Cindy. (NT) -- Elaine, 08:32:31 07/27/09 Mon
