Yes, at long last, I am done. I am both equal parts chuffed (because there were times I started to truly doubt I could finish this book) and sad, because a lovely journey of more than five years of my life is done. I still have alot of work to do, but it's editorial stuff and revision and not the act of original writing, which is far more exhilirating than editing and revising, let me tell you. :)

I realized awhile back that the whole thing was a huge fairytale, even the very grim political bits, which are true but the structure remained in the realm of fairytale. Each book is a very different experience and this one presented in a very different way than the previous two. It's layered like a fairytale too, I've never thought of my writing as having more than one or two levels, but this one, I think, has a few.

As it stands it's 89 chapters long- and all because I chose to cut one chapter that no longer fit the narrative- you know how uncomfortable those odd numbers make me. :) But a story is an organic thing, so I have to let it take its own shape and form, and not force a chapter back in to make the number even. Some chapters are very short, others long-ish. In length I think it's about the same as 'Mermaid' but I won't know for certain until it's in a properly formatted document and ready for the printers.

Right now I feel it's the best work I've ever done, in another week when the glow wears off, I will probably think it's the worst. That's just how it seems to go for me.

So now to the editing and the revising, which I've been doing bits of for months now, but still have some serious work ahead of me in the next couple of months. I will be sure to keep you updated as it moves through its stages and finally becomes available for your reading eyes.
